Thanks for the reply, Debbie.
I have read reports here that some cats don't get on with certain insulins. Saoirse certainly had such a problem when she was on Caninsulin (UK brand name for Vetsulin), hence the nature of the questioning in my first post on this thread. Saoirse felt really cruddy on Caninsulin. Since I had never had a diabetic cat before I didn't know what her clinical signs were telling me. With Saoirse (14 at time of Dx) she would seem very depressed and she used to hide most of the day when she was receiving it. She would be brighter in the hour or so after the dose was given, and then again about 9-10 hours after the injection she'd perk up a bit. As I said to my vet at the time, it was like having two different cats.
Saoirse was switched to Lantus shortly after and the difference in her on the Lantus was like night and day. She was much more herself, the hiding behaviour diminished immediately and she returned to more normal levels of sociability.
Patches hasn't been on Vetsulin very long, and it can take a little while for a kitty's body to get used to having the insulin on board. I'd suggest keeping a journal of her behaviours and also to let your vet know about the behaviour change. Also, are you home testing yet? Sometimes big swings in blood glucose levels (can be a characteristic of how Vetsulin works), it can make some cats feel a bit crummy.
