So I thought things were going great for chance. He has a very bad addiction to his dry food. We kept the hills science from the vet for emergency back up. We sealed it in a plastic container. He gets 1/2 cup Dr. Elson's given only during night in two divided doses. The Dr. Elson's is also in a sealed container. Chance gets determined to get his dry. His history is when we rescued him, we couldn't get him to eat anything for a couple months (he had a feeding tube). We finally got him to eat friskies swirls dry after trying multiple foods. He's never really cared for can but will tolerate it but will not always eat it that's why we leave some dry out at night and the emergency stash. We literally have to move his dry containers around the house because he will search the house for it all day. My profile picture is him finding one container on the fridge. Last night in the middle of the night, he found the hills science dry. Knocked it down and had a celebration meal. Of course his sugar is running high today. How long will it take for the dry to get out of his system and glucose to come down? all dry is now is plastic containers and locked up in my pie safe til chance figures out how to do a latch.

Boy Chance is one determined kitty and a smart one :p
The pic of him by the dry food is too funny
I'll tag Melissa for you and to also take a look at your SS, it looks like you may be holding the dose too long. Since he is still eating dry at night can you add SLGS to your signature. That's the dosing method you have to follow if you ate feeding any dry
Do you think you can get a few night test in ?

It usually takes about a week.

We had discussed dose and testing before, forgive me as I am sick and don't have my wits totally about me - but I know we were holding because those few nice nadirs and waiting for a bounce break.

Unfortunately without more midcycle and night tests I can't give the full "green light" for a 0.25U increase.

I think were fine holding for now. todays blood sugars have been great-- scared to say that. I was just curious on how long the dry would affect his sugar. He is a very determined cat but he has been through alot in his life.

cats can smell the dry kibble right though the plastic containers, it turns out. Many people have experienced exactly what you're going through and plastic containers just don't cut it.

we had to put our kibble in a locked room the cats can't get in, when we first removed it from circulation. We have since removed it from the house all together, except a bag of Wysong Epigen which we keep in the refrigerator.

Ha! That would explain his tracking. Were very thankful he's getting healthy but he's definitely a challenge. So far the pie safe is working. He does better with having some of the Dr. Elson's out at night. Cats are very determined creatures. Suppose that's why they have 9 lives!
