Thanks to Lori and the time she spent with me on the phone yesterday. She said if we just watched the youtube video (Mark and Buddy), we could probably do the stick w/out a vet tech coming over. So Mike and I studied everything last night about ear sticks and this morning before Gracie ate, we gave it a go. Our girl was so darn good...of course, she didn't know what was coming but she was so still even after the stick and we got a great drop of blood on the first try. Her BG was 282...so pretty darn close to what my vet thought it would be at home (she was thinking 250-275). We just checked her two hours after meal, still no insulin, and she was 268. So about the same as earlier so I'm glad she's not bouncing all over the place.

Well done! It is daunting at first but they get used to it. Shadow does still protest at the end of a curve day, when there has been a lot of testing. Eventually she reaches a point where enough is enough. But she usually takes in stride and I'm glad Gracie did too.

Great Job, Marjorie & Mike!

J.D. pretty much comes to me whenever he hears me getting the glucometer ready. Whether he's sleeping, or outside, or wherever. Sometimes he gets treats, sometimes he gets lovins.

Congratulations to you guys.

YAY! And good for you!! In no time you will be a pro. Congrats!!!

Eventually it will be just a part of your day. Mannie knows when his test times are, and comes and sits in his test spot and waits. Purrs before, during , and after testing. It's kinda cool.

Have a great night!

woo-hoo! you, mike and gracie are off and running now, girl!

binks also goes to the test rug when it's time...they know we're trying to help them
(although don't EVER try to tell a cat "this is going to hurt ME a lot more than it is YOU...kids'll buy it, cats too smart)

:))

Great job on doing your first ear stick, Marjorie and Mark! Once you get that first one under your belt, it just gets easier! My Spot also knows when his test times are, and if I want to get the odd test, all I have to do is say "Test" and he goes to his testing spot. I found it easier, as well as others on the board, to do the testing in the same place.

Good luck !

Welcome to Lantus Land and Congrats on a Job Well Done!!--It took me months to get it !!
Now I say to her "let's get a test" & off she runs into the bedroom & jumps into her catnapper for some chicken treats & her test..Like she is happy about it!!
As I said to another newbie tonite, cats will do almost anything for food, so a little ear stick, or shot will not deter them :-D :-D :-D
You have done the most important part now!! Good going-keep it up!

BRAVO!!

Don't forget the reward snackus....Punk will sell her mother (hmmm....I guess that would be me) for some bonito flakes.
Gracie sounds like a delight! I, of course, would be a bloody, shredded mess trying to test Punk in the beginning, but now, she will meow like crazy until I follow her to the "shot spot" so I can test her. It really amazes me how in tune these cats are with their bodies and you'll see, Gracie will let you know how she's feeling based on her numbers. Just watch her closely, but not smothering....LOL, and she will tell you too! The kitties tend to feel way mucho better when they're in a normal BG range.

Again, Well Done!
