Hi,

We took a long break from the message boards as I was driving myself crazy with trying to get Calley healthy. So, though not conventional and probably not recommended by those here at the boards, I stepped back and stopped all the craziness. I stopped testing several times a day. I went to an all chicken meal(canned Friskees chicken pate dinner) and just give Calley 2 units/twice a day.

Miraculously, she has stopped vomiting, had put on over a pound of weight, her fur has come back to a healthy shine and fluffy-ness, she is playful and loving and I am enjoying her again. She is still very hungry but has stopped the outrageous peeing and drinking.

I might test her every other day, but I look to her physical condition to see how she is feeling.

She is on Lantus and is about to run out. I have called all the local pharmacies and do not want to pay 300$ for a vial. I looked at the sticky about Canadian insulin but the posts all seem to be older.

What is the process to order Lantus from Canada at this time? Anyone have a suggestion on how to get cheaper Lantus?

Thanks all,
Kristin and a possibly regulated Calley, who is now playing in boxes again. :)

Canada is still your best bet for insulin I just paid $140 for a 5 pack of Levemir so not sure what the current going rate is for Lantus. Now I had a friend that lives close to the border who was going up to get her own cats insulin pick mine up. But I believe the last time I ordered it for Canada I did need a script that my vet faxed to them in order to have it shipped to the US. I have always had a great deal of luck with ordering online and been very pleased with the speed of delivery and the condition in which my insulin has arrived in. It is very well packed with ice packs and in a styrofoam cooler.

I will mention that Lev is more expensive than Lantus so you probably will get even a much better deal on price than I did with my Lev.

I also would be remiss if I didn't say that while yes looking at her overall condition is important, without testing at the very least before shots you are playing with fire. Because you will not catch a hypo in the making. Autumn can drop into the 20s with no outward signs of being in trouble and I have only caught those lows with my meter.
No human diabetic would give themselves insulin without checking their blood sugar first, it should be no different because Calley is a cat. But Calley is your cat and I'm happy she is doing better overall.

Thanks for the info. I found a local pharmacy that is willing to sell me single pens for 70$. I just registered for Lantus discount program so hopefully I can get that discount applied to the single pens. I will go that route until I can find a better solution. I can't afford a vial.

Kristen, can you give me more details about the pharmacy? I'm also trying to avoid buying a full vial but I haven't found a pharmacy yet that will sell me single pens. I live in New York but will be home in St. Louis over the holidays...
