Poor Buddy suddenly felt bad yesterday. He vomited in the morning and then didn't show interest in food which you guys know is very unusual for him. He was very lethargic and didn't go pee. So I took him to urgent car last night and they got some concerning tests.
ALT 1645 should be 20-100
TBIL 2.0 should be 0.1 - 0.6
PLT 253 should be 300-800
MPV 11.9 should be 12.0 -17.0

The X-rays also showed enlarged liver and spleen.

We took him to the only animal hospital that could still take him - around 11:30pm last night. They need to preform an ultrasound and we're still waiting for him to get that.

I'm out of my mind with worry, and poor Buddy was so incredibly stressed he was panting in the car. He hasn't eaten anything since yesterday because he can't eat till the ultrasound is done.

Please send get healing and well wishes Buddy's way.

Oh no, Mariette. I'm so sorry. So glad you got him to the animal hospital so quickly and I hope you get some answers soon. Sending Buddy a tonne of healing vines, well wishes and prayers. And hugs and support for you:bighug::bighug::bighug:.
Please keep us posted.

You have all my prayers for your Buddy. Please let us know how he is.

Thank you so much. Buddy's little body has been through so much already. Just as I thought we can take a break from the worry and just enjoy each other for a while.

Thank you Elise for your suggestion. I'm not sure if it could be a toxic thing he ate. I guess it's possible, but with the enlarged organs I am concerned that it may be something that's been around a while. Although all his blood work was good in November except for the glucose. it's so strange because he was perfectly normal on Saturday. Even Sunday morning. Until he vomited and then the lethargy and lack of appetite. That does seem like it's a sudden thing like something toxic.

I will let you guys know when I find out more.

Oh my gosh! Mariette I'm keeping you and Buddy in my thoughts and prayers this evening...sending strong healing vines and hugs your way.

I know this is a stressful time...please know that we are all with you in thought and in heart! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Keep us posted please!!

The doctor just called with an update about the ultrasound. She says it did not show anything that is too concerning. She said some of the organs are enlarged, but he's a large cat. So it seems they're not that disproportionate.
She's having another blood panel done and will call back later with news. She said it could be a passing toxicity that can cause those values to climb but they can drop quickly as well.

Oh no. I'm so upset about Buddy. I'm praying for him.

Oh gosh. I hope it is something that is passing and he will get better very soon. Is there anything that he could have eaten that was toxic to him?

I can't think what he could have had that would have been toxic, but I'm really hoping that is the case and that he feels better and eats today. I will be scouring the house to see if there's anything he could have gotten into.

Thank you all for your well wishes :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Buddy has such a special place in my heart. I love feral cats and I have two FIV+ former ferals at home now.

Sounds so familiar like with my pup who encountered something toxic and I had to take to the ER early Saturday morning. We don't know what made her so sick but if your kitty is an indoor kitty then it must be something in the house. Or it is something going on with your Buddy's body. Maybe a sickness that has not been diagnosed. Just praying for your boy. I look forward to getting good news about Buddy. Stay positive.

I'm sorry to hear you and Buddy are going through this. I hope he feels better soon and gets over whatever this is. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I too have a soft spot for ferals, especially the grizzled old ones who have had a tough life (have one of those myself who is also FIV+). I’ve always appreciated that you took Buddy in and gave him a home.

As for the liver values — if that proves to be an accurate test result, think about exposures to such things as plants, medications (Tylenol, for example), chemicals, secondary exposure to chemicals such as eating a poisoned bug, liver flukes (if you live in an area where that’s a possibility), or maybe a blocked duct (though hopefully the ultrasound ruled that out). Hopefully the vets can get to the bottom of it and get Buddy back on track quickly.

Thinking of you and sending positive vibes.

I just looked up liver flukes. I dint think we have them in California so one less thing for you to think about.
More prayers. :bighug:

Oh Mariette I'm glad the vet and said the ultrasound didn't show anything to concerning.
I'm praying for Buddy and I hope it's nothing serious.
This boy has been through enough , we've all come to love him.
Sending gentle hugs to you. ♥:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I finally spoke to the doctor again. She said his liver values have started to come down. ALT now at 1472. But he ate and she feels it's okay to bring him home. She says those values could remain high for a while but we'll get him rechecked at a vet in 2 weeks.

Thank you all for your prayers and wishes. We will go get him now. I can't wait to have him home :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Buddy's home :bighug:
Thank you all so much for being there for us today. Your prayers and good thoughts have helped him. I'm sure of it.

Their thoughts are that he must have somehow ingested or been exposed to something toxic. The only thing I can think of is that maybe a garlic supplement I take may have fallen on the ground. It's these tiny gel capsules. I can't imagine him going for that but I can't think what else it could be.

He's peed and pooped and eaten a little bit. It's so nice to have him back

I'm so happy he's home and is doing better and has peed, pooped and eaten some
I hope he continues to do well. Dont scare us like that Buddy.
Have a good night Mariette♥:bighug::bighug:

So thankful that he's home! Whew! It's so tough when they get that sick.

Have to bring this up, but did you check his food - google the brand, etc. just to make sure there's been no recalls or issues discovered recently. It happens...

:bighug:

Thank you all. You guys are the best. It means so much to me that Buddy has such a wonderful support group now. Especially since he was all alone against the world for so long.

I will be checking all the stuff I fed Friday and Saturday. But looking at his spreadsheet, the only thing that wasnt from a pack I previously used was the Koha chicken. That was one of the individual flavor cans I ordered directly from Koha. The other thng I recently introduced is Forti Flora. I just started adding it to his food a few days before. I ordered it from Amazon and I see there are some bad reviews on there for inappropriate storage. Can't imagne it could become toxic though?

A while back, Patty and Blue had temporary high liver numbers with one of her civvies. The cause was not found but a number of us wondered if it was due to anti-bacterial wipes used on the counters.

Interesting. We don't use antibacterial wipes.
I wonder if she uses FortiFlora. Mabe we can compare batch numbers. I'll try to find her thread.

He's getting a little sun on that nekkid belly <3

Just looked at Buddy's videos. You are truly a Saint to have taken in this raggedy kitty. You will have a spot in Heaven for your love and devotion to this boy. He is so very lucky to have you, Mariette. Many prayers for your Bud and for you going forward.

Aw that is so kind of you to say. He's been through a lot living on the streets. It's tough for a small animal on the streets of LA. I've seen him run from coyotes and dogs. I just wish i could have taken him in sooner. He digs deeper and deeper into my heart every day.

Ohhhh I just caught up on Buddy's last few days, he looks so happy to be home and pampered. So glad he is back where he should be.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

That is so precious! I'm so glad he found you and his furever home! You're a lucky mama to have him in your life....so sweet :) (Both of you actually!)

Mariette I am so sorry I am just seeing this now. How is Buddy doing? I don't know if you and the vet have considered this, but some additional food for thought - a liver infection can cause that high ALT. Might be worth it to rule out by giving a course of antibiotics for a couple of weeks. We've use Veraflox for high ALT before, with a lot of success.

I hope you and Buddy are resting well tonight and that he has started to eat some.
