Best UK foods available

. I guess the vast majority of pet owners in the UK feed supermarket-available pet foods ... ...sadly, that's as far as it gets. 'Trying' Saff on other foods seems a bit of a mountain to climb. My worry is there seems to be almost too much choice. I'd like to keep Saff on bird/poultry foods

Nature's menu chicken & turkey is a good option. For supermarket varieties, try Sheba Fine Flakes in Jelly Poultry Selection - 1.6% calories from carbs, but it's a bit high in sodium and phosphorus (1.93% and 1.1% respectively on a dry matter basis). It's a fairly bland food - it's helping with Saoirse's pancreatitis issues but it's not good for the long term for her kidneys.

Hi Ya, thanks for the reply, Molly is doing really well like you say, I have had a look at a couple of spreadsheets and was quite surprised to see what some levels are , I think because we are ending up with similar numbers everyday, and it seems to drop to its lowest point but only for an hour or so before starting to climb back up, so I thought maybe a longer lasting insulin may make this achievable, but it has not been long, so I need to be patient, something I am not good at! lol.

Document Molly's clinical signs as well as her BG values. It can help greatly in providing the necessary evidence to enable your vets to prescribe a longer-acting insulin under UK drug cascade rules. (Have a look at the first part of Saoirse's spreadsheet for ideas of what to record in order to build a case for getting the Rx).

Thanks for that, Aine - Nature's Menu does seem a good choice. I've just done a search and discovered that it contains many many times more pure meat than Whiskas and even Sheba - no nasty extra bits! I found a supplier called Fetch that sells it online so I may give them a go (unless anyone has any other recommendations?). Nature's Menu seems more than twice as expensive as Whiskas which is fair enough really, given its quality. I could always give Saff the odd pouch of Whiskas (if she'd still eat it!) to keep costs under control.
Sorry if I have hijacked a slightly more technical thread; Saff is a healthy four-year-old with no issues at present, but I do want to keep her that way for as long as possible and I know food is important.
Thanks everyone.

Diana

Quick update on my 'what food to feed a healthy civvie' query... the lovely Elizabeth very kindly gave me some Nature's Menu pouches to try on Sapphire and the verdict seems to be positive! I'll definitely be buying some chicken and turkey packs, my next question being is there a particular online supplier known to be reliable? I did do a search a little while ago and found some that look ok but personal recommendations are always helpful. Special offer / free delivery suggestions also welcome
Thanks to all
Diana

Zoo Plus may be one.
Note: if a particular product has an issue, contact the manufacturer, not the distributor. You'll get a better response.

A bit in the day but my cat Remi has been getting on well with the ropocat brand from the happy kitty company. He has IBD and so I went for a novel protein one-rabbit. It isn't too expensive and he really like it.
