Hi all,

I went out this afternoon looking for Methyl-B12 to treat Casey's neuropathy, and couldn't find it at WalMart, GNC (a health food store), and PetSmart. I asked a vet at PetSmart and he said he'd never heard of it and basically acted like I was making it up. He offered to go look it up, with a definite air of "I'm very busy and I know I won't find anything and I think you're crazy", but I told him not to bother because I figured I could just come back here, since you all know more than he did! He also seemed to think that giving a cat anything for neuropathy before their BG was under control was unnecessary.

Don't know about that last part - I'd like to see Casey's neuropathy get better sooner rather than later, and I don't know when her BG is going to be under control - but can y'all tell me the best resource to get Methyl-B12? Is it available in a store, or do I have to go online?

Thanks!! :-D

If you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you, they carry it. Also, some health food stores carry it. You will not find it in stores such as Walmart, Target, etc. I know you can also order it online, including at Vitamin Shoppe's website http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/search...=keywordSearch-_-Product Aisle-_-Vitamin B-12. There are other sites that other members use, they will be able to give you those links.

Once you start giving Casey the Methyl B12, you should start seeing some significant improvement within a few weeks providing the glucose levels are also under control. When I adopted Spot, she had severe neuropathy. It was so bad, she could barely walk. Within a month, she was beginning to jump on the bed and dresser and within 6 months, you would have never known she ever had it. If you are not already doing so, you will need to also hometest to make sure the glucose levels are under control.

I just want to let you know please be careful when you are shopping major retailers for Methyl B-12 many they carry are flavored, have sugar or some form of sugar alochol in it. Sugar alcohol is toxic to cats. Sugar alcohol has different names so please look at the ingredients first before purchasing & beware of the forms. Make sure the Methyl B-12 is pure.

Some FDMB friends use this http://www.lifelinknet.com/siteResource ... baline.asp.

That is true. If you do order from the Vitamin Shoppe, I have used the Source Naturals brand without any problems.

Thanks for the info! Should I start giving it to her now, or wait until I have her BG regulated? She currently tests in the 200s and 300s most of the time (see chart).

Thanks!

The Zobaline that Jenn/Baxter linked is formulated for diabetic cats. There's no sugar or flavoring.

I'd start it now. It's perfectly safe. There's no way for you to give too much -- it's a water soluble vitamin and any excess is excreted in the urine.

I use the Zobaline too. When her numbers are high is when she most needs it. It really helps Racci a lot. Occasionally she fools me and I can always tell by the way she's walking that I will find that pill she spit out that day so I'd better get looking and give another if needed. :o

Thanks for the information, everybody! I ordered 60 tablets of the Zobaline. I appreciate the help!
