Lantus likes the same dose both am and pm doses, otherwise you mess up the depot.
We don’t know how low she got during the night last night....she could have dropped lower than the 49.
At the moment she is bouncing from the low numbers last night. That is quite normal for newly diagnosed cats to do this.
Bounces happen when the cat drops too fast, too low or lower than they are used to and they dump stored glucose and regulatory hormones into their system to ‘save themselves’. Bounces can last from 1 to 6 cycles so don’t be concerned if BB stays higher for a few cycles.
As you are just starting insulin and BB had a strong reaction to the first dose of insulin, you could go back to 0.5 units as her dose.
You would have to stay at this dose for a week though, to let the depot fill. Chopping and changing messes with the depot.
Have you thought of an auto feeder for overnight? I found them invaluable.
Cats often drop lower at night and it is best if you can feed the same way for both cycles and an auto feeder allows this.
Are you offering snacks during the first half of the cycle?
Have a look at the two dosing methods at the top of the Lantus page in the yellow stickies and see which one suits you better.
There is the Tight Regulation and the Start Low Go Slow.
When you decide which one suits you can you put it into the signature please so we know, as it makes a difference when we are offering advice.. Thanks
