Hi!!
It's nearly a week since I switched to the human meter Contour Next so am still getting used to different numbers. I keep forgetting if the readings are lower than the pet Alphatrak2 or higher. Looking at her numbers I'm thinking they're lower but can someone pls confirm that as I want to take a photo so when she's in the green I don't freak out until necessary. I'm OK dealing with low numbers now - I have my hypo kit with higher carb wet food and honey and emergency testing strips (I had only 4 testing strips last weekend and shops are an hours round trip hence I put some aside) and I know what to look for. Emergency vet is 45 minutes away so I'm her vet I.C.E!!!!
Re SLGS as I'm not starting from the beginning - I became active when she hit the red and black zones and vet wanted her on 10U
Lantus/Gliargin ! Switched to FF (I had a lot of trouble sourcing it but when you join the FDMB and FB you get to find it a lot quicker due to so many ppl helping you!!!!!) and despite never testing PS I thought she looked off so tested and she was in the light green!! I did lower the dose but realised I'd still over shot but FDMB & FB to the rescue and I got through it!!
So I'm "starting over" but going down in units not up!!
1st QUESTION
So WHEN do I LOWER her dose? She's lower in the evenings right b4 dinner and has been in the dark green twice this week. I'm running a curve in the next 3 days but don't know when bcoz on one of those days I'll have to go out .
2nd Question
I was told by my vet I had to give insulin with food - dinner and breakfast and no snacks. However when I'm called out in the next 3 days I will leave upto 3 hours b4 dinner and return about an hour after shot time OR the opposite- close to dinner and shot (up to 90 minutes b4) but return upto 2 hours after dinner & shot.
Should and I leave food down given that she will eat hers and her sisters dinner and get no insulin fir between 1 - 3 hours? I could leave high protein treats down bcoz her sister thinks they're revolting and would seriously rather starve (so Sugar would eat only one serve as she'd eat her sister if sister attempted to touch them)
Thank you
