Morning kids, hope all are doing well out there. Just wanted to tell the story of yesterday in case anyone is interested. I was just too beat to type last night.
We started the day at 2am when the phone rang and since my cell phone is the morning chicken alarm, both cats wanted to eat right then. They had us up the rest of the night asking for food.
So it was a rough start to the day. I tested Asher about an hour and a half after I usually test him and he was 300 so I chose not to shoot insulin in the morning.
We got them in the crates fairly easily, but not two miles from home Alby pooped in his crate so it was a lovely ride to the vet. (They howled the entire way also) The vet staff was so nice and understanding about the mess when I arrived tho, and wouldn’t let me clean him up, they said they would handle it. I must have looked pretty bad.
They ran the blood tests on both cats when I dropped them off and by that time Asher’s bg was up to 500+ so the doc shot 1 unit at 9am before anything was done.
I spent the day with my Mom handling various problems so that added to the stress of the day with no sleep.
Both cats got dentals, Asher had two back teeth pulled and Alby had one small front one pulled. Alby got his rabies shot since he has reactions sometimes and they wanted him to be there to be monitored. All went well.
I picked them up around 4:30pm and it was a quiet ride home. Asher looked pretty good, Alby looked terrible. Upon arrival home, both cats were a little wobbly but they did not go hide, they wanted to be with us and got head scratchins and love. We fed some food gradually, and mixed a little more water with it than usual. We ground up some chicken and shrimp for a food topping too. Both cats ate. There was preening purring and peeing later in the evening. Asher did drink from his water bowl (not much). I haven’t seen that since January.
We shot 1 unit for Asher last night since his pmps was 265 and I wanted to be safe since we all needed some sleep and I didn’t want to be up testing half the night, plus put him thru more pokes.
This morning Asher was 296 which I thought was pretty decent for only giving him 1 unit last night. So this morning we shot 1.6. I just don’t feel ready to take him back up to the 2.4 we were giving him before the dental. We’ll see what happens today, I will get a mid day check in and then make a new decision at pmps.
They sent us home with chicken flavored tramidol for the pain. Asher ate like usual this morning, maybe a little less, was up bounding around this morning looking for birds at the window, but now he’s sleeping on my desk. Alby on the other hand was not ready to get out of bed this morning (he slept in my arms and snored all night) and he would not eat this morning. He is back fast asleep on Tom’s desk. So...I have not given pain meds yet. What do you guys think about it? Do I need to try and get this into them?
Thanks again for everyone’s care on concern thru this whole thing. It is wonderful knowing you are doing the right thing and you have people rooting for you. We truly appreciate it.
