Interesting article about rolling or shaking insulin, depending on the type. I have been doing neither with Levemir, maybe rolling is the way to go with Lev/Lantus? I did notice one time with a new pen Bronx's #s went abnormally low for an unknown reason, maybe due to a higher concentration on the first pull?

I was told from the start to do the rolling thing between my hands . Shaking it would create air bubbles. I know people have mentioned with new vials to pull a slightly reduced dose. Maybe first pull was more concentrated. Hopefully the more experienced members will chime in. I also do not use Lev/Lantus.

Levemir is not meant to be rolled or shaked. I have been using it for 2 years and you simply draw the dose out of the vial or pen. This also includes Lantus.

"5. Do not roll or shake the vial. Shaking the vial right before the dose is drawn into the syringe may cause bubbles or foam. This can cause you to draw up the wrong dose of insulin. The insulin should be used only if it is clear and colorless.'

Other insulins such as Prozinc or Vetsulin/Caninsulin need to be rolled or gently shaken to mix the different components

The 'mix' insulins are to be rolled to mix ingredients - those are Vetsulin/Caninsulin, NPH, Prozinc. Lantus and Levemir do not need and should not be shaken or rolled.
