Aplha Trak no shot number

Hi Everyone,

I just started Lantus 6 days ago so I'm in the beginning stages. I am using ReliOn Prime, but have picked up an Aplha Trak 2 with cheap strips. ($9 for 30) we got this for curves and to give the info to my vet (refuses to accept human meter #'s) I've read the no shot low number for Lantus is 150 and under (at least until I have enough data on how his body is processing the insulin) I was wondering what the Alpha Trak no shot low number is. I'm still going to use the ReliOn, but I don't want to have to keep sticking him for a number with two meters on curves day. Anyone have any info on it? Thank you and God bless all that spend their time helping us around the world with our fur babies. Also my support and prayers go out to all those going through the roller coaster of a sick kitty. I'm in the same rocky boat and you all have my deepest sympathy.

The no shot number for starting Lantus and following SLGS is 200. If under that stall, don’t shoot or feed and post for dosing help. It’s the same for human and pet meters. After 7 days do a curve. Since you skipped the 7 day count starts over.

We don't have a way of converting numbers from one meter to the other, so we just use the same number. So, 150. And it's not really a firm no shot number, except when you are new. Over time and as you gather data, you can lower than number. And in the beginning, we actually use 200 if following SLGS.

A couple comments on yesterday's 103. First, if you see a number that's out of whack with everything else you've been seeing, I'd get a second test to confirm. Second, if it was true number, and you see another low "unshootable" number within the next few days, it might be best to lower the dose to 0.75 units to see if you can find a dose you can give twice a day.

I just read the spreadsheet, you and he have been through a lot. :bighug:

Thank you so much. I don't know how much of the low number was from the sedative and his lack of appetite through the night, but I'm not taking anything for granted. Will reset the curve. Probably do one on Friday since the vet wants the numbers, but will take the readings with a grain of salt since I had to skip a dose and go by the 7 day curve.
