? Anyone have experience with glaucoma?

I just got a glaucoma diagnosis in one of my civvies. She has eyes that look like they’re slightly bulging out—sort of a “bug-eyed” look—but no other symptoms. My vet has experience with glaucoma in dogs but said it’s not common in cats.

Both eyes have elevated pressures. Both are clear and her vision seems fine. She’s a stray and only about 6 years old. She’s also FeLeuk and FIV negative.

Has anyone dealt with glaucoma in a cat? I’m interesting in hearing symptoms, treatment, drug names, outcome…generally any details.

Hi JL - Kel has a great memory! I can’t think of any other members who have experience with glaucoma in cats. I can send you a PM about my experience with glaucoma in my pup if you’d like. Main point I would say regardless of whether it is a cat or dog, is that eye pressures need to be reduced asap with eye drops, or there is a risk of permanent blindness.

Thank you both! @Christie & Maverick - yes, please PM me with your experiences with a dog. I’m definitely looking for real-life knowledge and stories.

The first day of eye drops was … interesting. Let’s just say no one warned me (or even knew) that the pupil reaction could be so dramatic. I botched getting the drop into one eye (she gets them in both) resulting in one pupil being a pinprick and the other being dilated. Looked like she had suffered a major neurological event.

So yep, this got my immediate attention! (I locked her in a cage to monitor)
