Ruth & Beethoven (GA)

I’m having an anniversary party for Beethoven. Yes, it’s been exactly one year since he went OTJ. And he’s doing great!
There are lots of new beans and sugar cats in Lantus Land now, and I don’t know as many as I used to, and I’m sure you don’t know us. So to fill you in…
Beethoven was diagnosed with diabetes after I noticed major excessive peeing in November 2008. Our vet put him on Lantus and recommended DM food and said dry was fine. She suggested home testing occasionally but didn’t really grasp the concept. We limped along for quite a few months without much progress until I found FDMB. So in July 2009 we shifted gears, started regular (not just occasional) home testing, started a spread sheet, and started paying attention to the wisdom that is here. We took him off the DM food and shopped from Janet and Binky’s chart—high protein, low carb, wet only. After that, it took only about 3 months to go OTJ. Now I check his BG about once a month, and it’s been consistently in the good range. He’s healthy, happy, playful, demanding, and spoiled.
So Beethoven is living the life at The Falls. Stop by to see his place. He’s really settled in and says he’s here to stay.
