Finally! She was so round that it looked like she swallowed a soccer ball. This morning she started rooting around in the birthing box I had ready for her, shredding up the papers and putting them in a heap and then laying in the box. She was in and out of it all day but I really didn't think today would be the day because she was still eating.
I sat down to watch a movie around 8:30 tonight and about 1/2 hour into it I heard a tiny mew coming from the laundry room (where the birthing box is located). Went to investigate and, sure enough, there were already two live ones and one stillborn. That was tough...having to give up on the stillborn one. I tried everything but nothing worked. Then she had another one. I thought that was it but about an hour later she had another one. She was so exhausted that she didn't take care of the umbilical cord or the placenta so I had to do it. Yikes!!! I'm online reading how to do this and getting very nervous. The kitties are so tiny and klutzy me is going to go in there will scissors and cut the cord????? It's funny what you can do when you have to. First I tied it off with dental floss about an inch from the body and then I sterilized my manicure scissors (they were the sharpest in the house). I was wearing surgical gloves the whole time when I handled any of them....let me tell you, it is not easy to tie a knot in dental floss with gloves on!!!
It's now been about 2 hours since she birthed that last one and Angel is sleeping soundly and so are the babies. At last count there were three solid black ones and two just like Angel, white with black head and tail (Turkish Van??) They are so cute...can't wait til they are old enough to play with.
Angel is still pretty fat...I could wake up in the morning and have a few more but I gotta get some zzz's now. Just couldn't wait to tell "the family", you guys. I'm sure Morris is laughing his butt off at the Bridge, saying "You wanted to have a multiple cat household, didn't you??"
Oh, I forgot to say that pictures will follow in the morning. Ni ni now...
