Finally! She was so round that it looked like she swallowed a soccer ball. This morning she started rooting around in the birthing box I had ready for her, shredding up the papers and putting them in a heap and then laying in the box. She was in and out of it all day but I really didn't think today would be the day because she was still eating.

I sat down to watch a movie around 8:30 tonight and about 1/2 hour into it I heard a tiny mew coming from the laundry room (where the birthing box is located). Went to investigate and, sure enough, there were already two live ones and one stillborn. That was tough...having to give up on the stillborn one. I tried everything but nothing worked. Then she had another one. I thought that was it but about an hour later she had another one. She was so exhausted that she didn't take care of the umbilical cord or the placenta so I had to do it. Yikes!!! I'm online reading how to do this and getting very nervous. The kitties are so tiny and klutzy me is going to go in there will scissors and cut the cord????? It's funny what you can do when you have to. First I tied it off with dental floss about an inch from the body and then I sterilized my manicure scissors (they were the sharpest in the house). I was wearing surgical gloves the whole time when I handled any of them....let me tell you, it is not easy to tie a knot in dental floss with gloves on!!!

It's now been about 2 hours since she birthed that last one and Angel is sleeping soundly and so are the babies. At last count there were three solid black ones and two just like Angel, white with black head and tail (Turkish Van??) They are so cute...can't wait til they are old enough to play with.

Angel is still pretty fat...I could wake up in the morning and have a few more but I gotta get some zzz's now. Just couldn't wait to tell "the family", you guys. I'm sure Morris is laughing his butt off at the Bridge, saying "You wanted to have a multiple cat household, didn't you??"

Oh, I forgot to say that pictures will follow in the morning. Ni ni now...

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

How exciting Brenda! You and Mama kitty have your hands full. As for the cord.....normally the mother chews through it or sometimes it just breaks off itself. I know it is important not to pull on it or try to remove the "stub" to soon as this can lead to a hernia. The mother will generally lick the cord stump often over the first days to clean it and help it dry out faster. We do spray the cord of our calves after birth with disenfectant (Iodine or Provodine) especially if the mother cow doesn't clean it well, however hours after birth the calf is taken from it's mother (she is a milk cow) and there is no one to continue licking. In the presence of a mother I would likely not use a disenfectant that she would lick off.

Sad that one of the Angel-ettes didn't make it  but that is often the case, nature decides who is fit enough and who probably didn't have much chance, mama kitty has quite a litter there and will be quite busy for the next few months.

Can't wait to see the pictures and find out who is what (boy or girl) and what the names will be. It's so hard to tell the sex of kittens....I have to admit for the first few weeks I was sure Spooky was a she, but I figured Spooky could be a boy or girl name  Of corse now "he" has become "it" but everyone that sees him also thinks he's a girl, he is very slim and petite, with girly looks (don't tell him that... ;-) )

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

Congratulations! Kittens can be a lot of fun, but you are going to have your hands full shortly.

How incredibly exciting! Kittens are so, so cute and so much fun. Morris really did send you an angel to help you heal quickly!

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

((Brenda))

I am so happy for you! Kittens are the surest way to make you smile and lighten your heart (well, until they start climbing the curtains). I am sure Morris is looking down and maybe he's laughing but I think he's smiling, too.

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

Congratulations Brenda on becoming a brand new Mama again.
Morris did send you an angel and I just know he is smiling down on you today.

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

congratulations! I can't even begin to imagine helping with such an incredible event. I have never seen brand new kittens before ... angel was lucky to have you there, to help her when she couldn't do it anymore. Sorry to hear about the one that didn't make it, that is sad, but maybe for the best. Good luck with all your angel-ettes! Can't wait to see pics!

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

Awww kittens =) I remember when Tugger and Tux were born. I had seen one kitten being born years before, but I sat up with Shadow (the mamakitty) all night and watched all five kittens make their way out. Shadow wouldn't let anyone else in the room with us, but she also wouldn't let me leave her. She actually had the last three while laid out against me. I had laid out on my side with her after Tux came out, and she just kept popping kittens out every hour. It was a pretty incredible experience. Hubby had to sleep on the couch that night because Shadow decided my bed (and brand new comforter set!) was the best place to have her babies  I remember thinking she had two or three more to go when I fell asleep, but there weren't any more kittens when she woke me up a couple of hours later. I was kind of glad, five was enough ;)

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

What an amazing experience this must be for you!

How wonderful! I'm glad it went so well. Sad of course for the one who didn't make it. But now, you have a whole houseful of angels.

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

Congratulations on the new Angel-ettes. I am so sorry you lost one (fly free little Angel baby). I am on the list of people waiting to see the photos! I love seeing kittens develop from birth! My civie, Teddy, along with his Mom and littermates, was placed with me for fostering after they were abandoned in front of a store on the day they were born. It is magical to see them turn into little cats.

Re: Angel Has Produced Five Angel-ettes...so far!

Awww congrats!! Cant wait for an update and some pictures. You did a great job as a kitty doctor.

Oh! Those babies are so cute. I have never seen white cat with a black head before. I can't wait to see pictures when they have their eyes open. Thank you so much for sharing.

Oh Congratulations!!! The kittens are soooo adorable. There is nothing cuter than that. I've seen this a few times and it's just so amazing how the mom takes such good care of her babies. Good work Angel!

Good job all of you ♥

Precious, precious, precious. Good job, Morris...I know you're up there with the baby who came this morning...and you should be proud you sent Angel to Mama...what a perfect, glorious beginning.

And Brenda, I'm quite jealous. I've never had a cat give me babies...gotten a few quite early, but never from the moment of breath. How blessed you must feel...

Best-
Michele

Now THAT'S what I call picture perfect! What a beautiful mom and babies; I would keep them all!!!

Wonderful picture, Brenda, of such a beautiful new family. Angel, you should be proud! Brenda, your Morris will see to it that the one GA kitten will always be in the hearts of his mama Angel, his brothers & sisters, and his momabean. Congrats to you all on a job well done!

We all just love lil babies...
I am so happy for you ALL!!! :YMHUG:

Not to be macabre, but.... you said initially there were 2 live kittens and one stillborn, then another live one, then another live one. That's 5 total, but 4 live. Is the GA kitten with the Mom in the photo or are my math skills getting rusty?
I've only seen newborn kittens once.... stray Momma cat had 4 kittens, and we found them with her the next day. She unfortunately took them away shortly afterward, and then thankfully carried them all back one by one about a month later. Catching them was an adventure - not having human contact all that time made them semi-feral. We ended up keeping them all. Coincidentally, the kittens were born the same day I got Donovan, back in June of 1996. All tuxedo kitties, just like him.

I must not have been thinking too clearly and that's a good catch MJ. There were six in all, one stillborn and five are left. They are just amazing and so is Angel! She has come out 3-4 times today to get cuddles with me and then goes right back and takes care of her brood. They have already changed in just one day, seem more robust and wiggly than when first born...and their fur is just as silky as Angel's.

Going to try to get some shut-eye now...only managed about an hour nap this afternoon so I'm still dog (or cat!) tired!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!
They are gorgeous!! What is more beautiful than that???
Angel did an amazing job, and you Brenda, are truly the cat Momma of the year!!

My Heart Melted seeing them!! GORGEOUS!! Happy Babies! We love ya all!
