I know how it is in the beginning...it's overwhelming! So many details...so much information! And then to try to juggle everything that you're already doing (I saw your comment about kids and DH, etc.) now add diabetic cat and all that entails to the existing load! I feel your pain!!!
So...take a deep breath...try to get things set up and lets just keep rolling here for the moment...
Once you get your signature down and your SS link there, we can proceed...
Maybe it's too late to move to the Main Health forum - either way, there's a process for what happens when you get a low number and then there's the business of selecting a dosing method - very important to read thru the methods; TR or SLGS - as that will help you decide at what number do you shoot insulin.
I think I read up there you think there are ketones in his pee? It's hard to evaluate those strips after any time has passed...but if that's the case it's even more important to fast track you toward giving insulin - the important question is HOW MUCH to give. You want to give some, but not over do it because you don't want to deal with a hypo situation right off the bat.
Have you been reading any of the other Stickies (the yellow tabbed threads at the top of this forum)...they talk about being prepared for the event of kitty going too low (getting medium and high carb foods to keep on hand, AND having karo, corn, maple syrup in the house or even ice cream for that matter, anything that's full of sugar in the even of a drop)...
Typically new members don't shoot below 200...we ask you to post and ask for help/advice. So these are the steps when you encounter a number that's 'too low' - you STALL/Don't Feed/Test again in 20 minutes. If the BG numbers are going up, it's usually safe to shoot, if going down, then you will want to repeat - Stall / don't feed/ test again in 20 minutes...which direction are the numbers going with no food? That's when you make your call...and either shoot or skip....
So that's why I'm asking you not to give any insulin this morning - it's hard for me to advise you without getting a better picture of what's going on.
You'll also want to keep in mind that Lantus is given 12 hours apart - am dose and pm dose - nice if you can add a column with the time of shot to your SS - nice but not necessary. Also great if you can get mid-cycle tests - that tells us how low the current dose is taking Bombay.
So, that's a ton of information...and this stuff takes time to sort out.
I hope this has been helpful to you this morning!..
