Advice needed

Our kitty has been unregulated since diagnosis 4 months ago, almost always high glucose in mid 20's, sometimes drops to teens but most often high. We've tried senvelgo, prozinc and currently lantus 4units twice daily. Vet prescribed royal canin a few months ago glycoadvanced and it did not lower numbers much, he always ranged 17-24 On recommendations from other forums, I tried the Dr. Elseys protein chicken kibble last night and his numbers spiked to 28 this morning and now at noon its 29. He will not eat wet food, only kibble. We are at a loss what to do next. He is eating and drinking fine, some days a lot but usually pretty normal. He does have significant neuropathy and can only walk a little 4 feet at a time before laying down. The vet has not offered any other options. We are unable to afford an internist or ultrasound. Any ideas on what to do next?

The prescription foods marketed for diabetics are no good. Too high in carbohydrates. The Dr. Elsey's is fine carb-wise. Ideally you'd be feeding a wet food, but not a deal breaker to get the diabetes under control.

On the neuropathy I'd be willing to bet if you got him into better numbers (50-120 mg/dL on a human meter), that would improve.

The next step would be to see what's going on with his numbers once you're done with the food transition. Insulin needs can drop significantly when switching from a high carb food to a low carb food. Would you be able to take a look at this post? Specifically the part about setting up a spreadsheet. We want to help you. But I hope you can understand it would be dangerous of any of us to offer guidance about insulin without seeing the whole picture of what's going on.
