Last night we went to the vets ( for check up, her weight as risen .5kg and he said it was good her drinking less) and told him thaat Katys blood have been around 21-25mmol in the morning to night. We told him that if her blood that we increase her insulin to 0.5 unit depends where she is. He said to raise it by 0.5 (her max would be 3.5 if she keeps where she is). When we tested her blood last night at 7pm ( hour after coming home from the vets) her blood was 9.5mmol (we gave her 2units).

This morning she was 21.4mmol (gave her 3.5 units) she wasnt fed straight away but she did have food left over from last night. When we got up she was given wet and hard food but only ate the wet. She vomited the biscuits up (just biscuits and water). She then hide beind the sofa. She came out about 1 1/2hr later and i tested her blood. She was 3.4mmol. I offered her some treats - she refused.i gave her a tiny bit of manuka honey on my finger (how much are you suppose to give ??????) she then excepted the treats (these are hard food biscuuits from M&S - i know there hardfood but surely it'll raise her up???. And its the only treats that she has ever liked and only started to eat them 1 month before being diagnosed). She then ate some wetfood ( Sainsburys 1 portion) and seemed fine, settled and slept. Just now i tested her blood has gone down to 3mmol, again more honey was given though this time she was more responsive and didnt really want it ( alittle more than b4, more treats and usual sheba wet food given - ate about 1/2)

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

I am not sure what 3mmol converts to in American numbers????

Dry food...usually will not increase blood sugar for an hour or more, and will stay in the system approximately 3-8hrs (cat dependant). Dry is not an ideal solution, nor will it pull a cat out of danger from low blood sugar immediately.

Wet food/syrup....will immediately raise blood sugar, but will not keep it raised for long. Repeated testing and feeding SMALL amounts (tsp or so at each test) will help keep the blood sugar up.

Try not to feed too much food at one time when numbers are low. It could cause a cat to vomit or lose their appetite and then they will not eat if you need to feed in order to keep their numbers in a safe range.

Thanks, we tested her again 45 mins ago and she was 3.4mmol (55mg) again, gave her a bigger blob of honey (Manuka only the best lol) shes now sleeping again. Her insulin is due in 1.15 mins. Dont understand why she is so low. She will not be getting insulin tonight.

Was tested against at 6pm and she had risen to 6.4 (about around 100 i think) but no we wont give her anymore insulin until it has risen, im wondering whether were having a honeymoon period ( my birthday tomorrow so maybe its her present lol)

Well Happy Birthday!

My vets say not to give insulin if they are under 10. So as it seems with these 3 and 6 numbers she won't need insulin as long as that persist :-)

Re: Advice needed - COULD WE BE IN REMISSION???

We have just tested her blood for the last time tonight and it 15.3mmol (246mg). As we are now 3.40HRS since she should of had her insulin we are not now going tongivw it to her. Have seen behaviour from her tonight that we havent seen in 3 months (since going on holiday and coming home and her being diagnosed) like her taking herself off upstairs to bed (in the last 4 hours), happy biting ( has done it to me since kitten - doesnt do it to hubby as Fierce as me) ##

Could we have gone into Remission so quick??????

You need about 2 weeks of no insulin with acceptable glucose levels throughout the day to consider the cat in remission. The vomiting episode and altered eating behavior suggests something else could be going on, so i'm suspecting you're no where near remission (though I could be wrong).

Would you please complete this list today's results as:
21.4 (385.2) ~ AMPS
3.4 (61.2) ~ +1.5
US Central post time for the following - not sure about your time since shot
3.0 (54.0) ~ 11:53 AM
3.4 (61.2) ~1 2:05 PM
6.4 (115.2) ~ 2:05 PM
15.3 (275.4) ~ 5:48 PM

That will help us see time from shot vs glucose level more easily.

Also, it will really help if you would set up a spreadsheet so you and we can see any patterns in glucose levels more clearly. Instructions are here
