Good Labor Day Morning, Everyone,

Lots of rain last night and still rainy this morning with thunderstorms predicted (all caused by the hurricane that is still down south). The Labor Day paddle looks increasingly iffy (but the potluck will go on).

I took Rusty's dose up by .25 to 1.25 as suggested by Sienne and Libby. We'll see what happens. I am a bit concerned about the crystals and "amorphous debris" found in his urine, and the borderline Ph. The vet thinks he might have a stone and is going to take an x ray of his bladder next Monday (when we take him in for his dental). She said that the blood in his urine (found during the urinalysis) was probably owing to the cystocentesis. I've been reading about urinary-tract blockages and now am worrying. (One of the reasons I'm a medical "idiot" is because if I learn of a symptom, I worry!! Therefore, I try not to learn too much about medical problems!) Anyway, it seems logical to me that even though no bacteria were found in his urine sample, the presence of crystals and "debris" could indicate a problem that might be reflected in the higher bg levels he has had recently. Anyone have thoughts/experience with something like this?

Rusty had a good night, good shot (I think), good appetite (2 sittings of breakfast), and now is having a good sleep on the couch. It is dark, murky, rainy, "hurricane" weather.

Healing vines and good thoughts to all sick kitties,

Everyone have a good day,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

I don't have first hand experience with crystals, etc. I do know that male cats are more prone to these sorts of problems -- poorly designed anatomy! If you're feeding fish products, you might want to reconsider. They can contribute to urinary track issues.

I would have thought that the cytocentesis might cause red blood cells to be in the urine. I'm not sure if the explanation is the same as for hemoglobin.

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

Morning guys!

Good luck with the dosecrease Ella - I hope it will lower tings overall for Rusty. I know what you mean on the medical stuff... I am the same way. Mannie's last lab indicated blood, few crystals, protein in his... so I wait the vet's return to work on Tuesday to discuss it with her. He has his dental on 9/20, so perhaps we will redo the urinalysis with a sterile sample this time, and see if I too can stop worrying.... It is good that you will have this checked out when Rusty goes in. I know blockages can cause problems, and need to be addressed quickly - if that is even what is troubling Rusty - it could be something else.... It has been a very long time since I have had a kitty that dealt routinely with this problem. Try not too worry, you'll get it resolved soon.

Wow on your weather - darn hurricanes! We have sun this AM, much cooler in the mornings now, but the days have been exceptionally nice. I hope you get to go on your paddle. Enjoy the picnic too!

Rusty!!! DUDE!! I survived my road trip!! And I didn't get car sick. :-D Thanks for coming to my bean's family BBQ. We did good! See you later? ~~ Mannie

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

Sorry that Rusty has so much going on! Fingers and paws crossed that all is answered at next week's vet visit AND that the dosecrease does the trick in getting him back down to more Rustylike numbers!!! Sounds like your weather is such that today might be a good curl up with a good book sort of day. Enjoy!

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

Hi Ella, good luck on the dosecrease, and I hope the X-ray and dental next Monday will help further diagnose if Rusty has a stone and about the higher than usual bg. I'd tell you not to worry, but I'm the same way with worries and medical issues with our babies. Thanks for the Hungarian cucumber salad recipe, btw! The salad sounds so nice and refreshing and something even I can handle, as I don't cook often, and I love cucumbers. It's similar to what my Mom used to make for us growing up, and she did use the sour cream, but I'm going to try your ingredients. Her background is Ukranian. Have a wonderful time today with the paddle, rain stay away, and enjoy the potluck.

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

Hi my dears!! Sorry you are worried about Rusty, but it is only natural..Hopefully the dose increase will help his numbers--Dont look too much on the internet,I made myself CRAZY nailbite_smile last time Moonie had something wrong!! Hope Rusty will be past all this quickly, and the dental & xray will find the cause..
Meanwhile, I am sending Healing vines to Rusty man, to be all better quickly...
I thought Copper had those crystals once, but it was just a uti...
Love & Hugs from Us!!

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. Sienne, Rusty doesn't get any fish (he doesn't like it). He eats Wellness turkey (one 5.5oz can over the course of a 24-hour day); a small amount of FF Turkey & Giblets (bedtime snack); a small amount of canned, low-sodium, 100% chicken chunks in water (people food from the health food store) with extra water added as a +9 snack in the daytime cycle; and freeze-dried chicken bits for post-test treats. That's it! I aways mix water in with his food.

The weather is getting more and more awful as the morning progresses. I think we will be rained out!!

Ella

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223. dose increase

Come on Rusty, you got more juice! It's time to bring those numbers down, you can do it.

I hope all goes well for your canoe trip and potluck. I have to admit that I always liked summer storms, sitting on the porch and just watching it rain.

Rusty, you got rain? You can come out here, we'll have sun soon. And the beans are talking about tearing down our big barbecue. WE gotta use it while we can! -- Tess

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223, +5.5 182 dose increase

Ella: good luck on the dosecrease.

I have some Passwan here that I would be happy to send you. It is a Chinese herb (my vet is VERY picky about where she gets her herbs) and my vet said it is a "must have" for a home emergency kit because it is very good at dissolving crystals. I have found that, like most things, ECID but it is an unopened bottle and I'd be glad to send it to you to try.

I don't think that the cysto would have any effect on the HGB.....but I'm not a vet.... ;-) ;-) ;-)
'
Sorry to hear the weather has caused a change in holiday plans.

pls be sure and pm me your address if you'd like the passwan. I'll send it tomorrow.

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223, +5.5 182 dose increase

I'm glad you took ole Rusty in to the vetty so you can him back to those handsome Rusty-like numbers. I wanna to say "don't worry"....but that's like sayin' "don't breathe", eh?

And crappola on the weather there. That's just crazy. I think Houston got about 2 drops of rain from TS Lee and lots and lots of wind.

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223, +5.5 182 dose increase

Good luck with the increase! Tarragon had crystals in his urine when he was diagnosed. He was put on an antibiotic and they cleared up. Our vet explained it as male cats anatomy and the sugar being dumped in the urine. I don't know if that is correct, but it cleared up right away.

We could use a rainy day, but not sure about a hurricane. Sorry about the paddle. Hope you just spent your day cuddling instead!

Re: 9/5 Rusty AMPS 223, +5.5 182, +8.5 175, PMPS 186, +4.5 1

Hi again, everyone,
Thanks for visiting and for your thoughts. Rusty seems totally fine this evening (I was worried about him today because he seemed lethargic). But when I came home at PMPS from the potluck Labor Day party to give him his shot and feed him, he was fine (and had made good deposits in the lb). I guess he was just having an off day. I went back to the party and when Edward and I got home in the mid evening he was terrific (and very glad to see us). We all sat and watched a movie on TV. The new dose seems to be having a good effect on his numbers. It was a flat, high-blue day (after the yellow AMPS). The weather is so terrible (pouring rain all day) and expected to be so again tomorrow. So we won't go down to camp until Wednesday. On Friday we are pit-crewing for a friend doing the 90-mile canoe race. More on that later.

Everyone have a good evening. Ni ni,

Ella & Rusty

I am so glad that Rusty is feeling better! YAY! perhaps it was just an off day - mine get them sometimes too.

I remember that 90 mile race from last year - that was just awesome! I am sorry about your weather... looks like TS Lee is wrecking havoc with severe rains, and flooding. What a year it has been for weather. I hope you guys are doing OK.

Rusty?????? Did I read CAMP????? Yes??? oh boy! can we come and visit??? ~~ Mannie
