Happy THursday beans

Shadow kept me up quite late last night, ate an entire can of 18% before I felt it was OK to go to bed.

Today, she's not starving for breffis, but if I twist her arm, OK, she'll eat. She's a good eater, that's what got us into this mess. Peeing and purring today, that's all I had time to check on before I streaked out the door for early work schedule.

I think I'm going to move her slowly back an hour over the weekend and see if we can have these +4 occurrences a little earlier in the evening and I won't have to be up til dawn's crack doing BG testing. What's that expression, "best laid plans..."

Today is her 10th cycle at the current dose, maybe we'll see some Action Jackson over the weekend. Lately she's not been staying on a dose this long.

Insulin question: As a vial of Lantus ages, does its potency wane or is it like a light switch, suddenly doesn't work anymore? We have cartridges ready to start for the next time, I'm just waiting for this vial to play out and if Lantus potency slowly ebbs, I'm gonna be nervous when it's time to start that next cartridge. It may hit her like a ton of bricks.

Re: 9/30 Kim's Shadow amps 103

nice amps for shadow.
don't know about the insulin question...on my first vial currently, I'd like to know the answer too

Re: 9/30 Kim's Shadow pmps 81, insulin question, not emergency

I've used Lantus to the point where it's toasty. What tipped Jojo off (she noted the problem) wasn't that Gabby's response was slowly diminishing, it was more that her response was very uneven. For someone like Jojo who has a great deal of experience in interpreting a spreadsheet, Gabby's numbers stopped making sense.

I don't think I see anything like that on Shadow's SS, at least not yet. Do you? But I'm coming up on 7 weeks on one vial - wild, huh?

Great PMPS...hope she can surf for you tonight without getting too low....just nice, smooth, gorgeous greens!!

53 @ +3. breaking out the gravy. except Shadow recovers from these lows faster if she gets the food plus the gravy. I used to just scoop the gravy out but when I did that, these things would last for hours, whereas if I feed her the protein and the carb, she does a better job of coming back up.

my behind is dragging but if I go to bed, I'll be down for the count.

rats.

Re: 9/30 Kim's Shadow pmps 81, +3 53, +3.5 51 insulin question

she's killing me with this. some more 18% for her, couple TYlenol for me.

Re: 9/30 Kim's Shadow pmps 81, +3 53, +3.5 51 insulin question

Oh Boy again? Sounds like you are learning what does and doesn't work with Shadow. ECID and we all have to find out about our babies by trial and error. Good Job!

Yes, Tess is giving me a break tonight. She's coming down but not too fast. Ah Bed! I hope you get to go soon, wish I could stay up with you but I don't think I'd make it for long. Good Luck and Ni NI.

Bg 75 @ +4. she nadirs early. this should be it. if I can stay awake, I'll get one more, but this is a BIG if. I gave her one more healthy size snack of 18% and I'll leave her regular LC out if she needs a snack in the night.

ni ni dear friends.

I usually start a new pen or cartridge on a day when I can be home to monitor, just in case there is an extra kick from the fresh insulin.

Ok, I am confused about the insulin too.
I thought it only lasted 28-30 days...and then you have to open a new vial or pen.
is that not true?
(I am only on day 5 of lantus and very new to all this)

the manufacturer says 28 days because that was how long the scientific trial study lasted. They don't have actual data on how long lantus truly lasts. I know human diabetics that use their vial for 3 months before they open a new one.

I read that too, Kelly, that human diabetics use theirs to the end of the vial. My first two vials I was not as strict or careful about how I treated it. This one I have really babied, it is out of the frig long enough to draw my injection and right back in and I've alcohol swabbed it with every use. I know the day will come that Shadow's numbers will start to creep back up but until then, I'm using it.
