Re: 9/30 Apollo AMPS 301

Good morning John! Not bad AMPS. Almost yellow.

I meant to post yesterday and didn't get a chance. We free feed. Tarragon eats small amounts throughout the day. If I see him go in and clean a bowl all at once, I know to check is BG and it is always low (below 50). He is one that will go eat when he starts to go too low and eat until all the food is gone. Every cat is different (ECID). Just watch Apollo and see what he does when he starts to go low. It took me awhile to figure it out.

I know that the first few weeks are extremely exhausting and an emotional roller coaster. It will get better. You will figure Apollo out (for the most part) and be able to know what direction he is headed by his +2, +4, behavior, eating, etc. I would definitely look at care.com and get some sitters in mind so you can go on trips. You can specify that they only show you those that have experience with FD. We are using our 4th one this weekend just for a day trip. We hire them first for a day trip and then for an overnight. Our goal is to get about 6 of them who have been to the house, know the animals, and can test/shoot. It really gives you some peace of mind and you are able to enjoy yourself.

Hope you have a great day!

Re: 9/30 Apollo AMPS 301

Read yesterday's condo--Looks like Apollo is doing GREAT!! He surfed yesterday That's so good so soon!
Moonie was also on Humilin N & was so sick from it! Once we started on lantus, she is So much better!
Yes we all devote so much time to them, but it's worth it to me--How about taking Apollo to your family with you?? I never thought Moonie could ever leave our house after being in for 14 1/2 yrs until we had to evacuate for the Hurricane- But she traveled really well & was fine -We were there 4 days & other than complaining that she wanted to go home  , she was really good!
Hope you can find a petsitter that will take good care-- BTW, You are doing a great job!!!

Repeat after me "It is just a bounce, ……it is just a bounce" As everyone has said it does get better. I hope you can find a good sitter, it does help to be able to get away.

Re: 9/30 Apollo AMPS 301, +3 334, +6 363

Hi John,
I just read your yesterday's condo and want to reassure you that things will get so much better. Apollo's body will begin to adjust to Lantus and you will find the right dose(s) as you go along. There are so many variables and it is easy to get discouraged, but as Lisa (Do Lou) remarked in Rusty's condo the other day: "the biggest variable in FD is FD itself" (paraphrased).

We all know what it feels like to suddenly have constrictions placed on our lives. But we also know that we love our kitties and we want to do what is best for them. You are doing so well in such a short time. FD can be a real roller coaster in the beginning of treatment, but it is much better to test and gather the data that will empower you to deal with FD than to blindly follow what a vet says. I shot my GA kitty, Stu, blind for 4 years. I knew nothing. Finding this board literally saved his life and gave him many months of better quality of life.
You and Apollo are on the right track. You will find that there are all sorts of ways to arrange a trip, or to go out for evenings. It just takes a little planning ahead.

Carry on!

Ella & Rusty

Re: 9/30 Apollo PMPS 391

John,
KT took me on that quick step again today - it wasn't NEARLY as scary this time as it was that first time. NOW I can say it does get easier. I didn't have that freaky feeling this time.....

Next time Apollo decides to quick step, you'll see.... ;-)

Re: 9/30 Apollo PMPS 391, +3 244

Just posted Apollo's PMPS, +3 244.

Thanks again for all the support and kind words. I'm hanging in there. Then again it could just be because he is on a bounce and I don't have to worry about him going too low.

Come on big guy- let's clear this bounce fast- get back to the good stuff!

I hear you on that, John! Then after a couple of times of really low numbers and you handle it just fine, the high numbers start to look a lot worse. You and Apollo are making great progress. Have a great weekend!

Re: 9/30 Apollo PMPS 391, +3 244, +6 93, ok to go sleep?

it's a pretty big drop in the past 3 hours. i think if i were you i would want to see that he's hit bottom and starting to come up again before i went to bed. we usually recommend 2 rising numbers when you're at this stage - so 2 numbers in a row that are coming up.

if you're dying and really need to call it a night, give him some food to help him surf.

once you have more data and you can know better when his nadir is, then you'll know if +6 is the bottom. punkin usually doesn't go any lower after that and I'd go to bed, but until you know for sure when his nadir is, i'd play it safe.

Re: 9/30 Apollo PMPS 391, +3 244, +6 93, +7 49, uh oh

Just posted Apollo's PMPS, +7 49. Going to try giving him some HC now. And here I thought it was going to be an easy night.
