Hi everyone,

Last night, Johnny tested at 160 and 135....a few days earlier at the same time as the 135, he was 80. SS is updated, but we haven't tested every day, so make sure to note the date.

Is it normal to have this happen almost a month (8/28) since last getting insulin? Do we watch, do we step in?

Oh, I really don't like seeing these numbers after so long...

Johnny's acting fine and is his normal spunky self. He declared that Fall is here by going into the bottom of his wicker basket bed. He seriously only starts doing this within days of the arrival of fall on the calendar and then throughout the cooler months. It's hysterical! He's the Fall counterpart to Punxsutawney Phil!

Re: 9/25 Johnny - Back with some high blue and questions

normally I would say, don't get stuck on one or two numbers, see what the overall picture is...

here is the BG guidelines: http://petdiabetes.wikia.com/wiki/Blood ... guidelines

as you can see 160 is above the normal range, but again, it's only one number and if the bulk of your testing is well within range, I wouldn't get too worried about just one number.

Now if you see this continuing, then you need to start ruling things out - such as infection, dental needed, etc. and once that's done, then it is possible that insulin could be needed again, if only for a short time.

If you look at another condo - Pat's Raja is back on insulin at the moment, infection, etc all being ruled out.

the good news - you've been here before and you know what to do, if you need to do it.

hmmm, how are Johnny's P's? Eating ok? Feeling ok?

I wouldn't give insulin just yet, but definitely keep monitoring. Check 4 hours after food to see if he's coming down. Hopefully this is just a blip and he can fix it on his own. If not, then you can help him.

Re: 9/25 Johnny - Back with some high blue and questions

Thanks for the feedback. He came down to 91 this afternoon. So glad to see that! Maybe it was a one-time thing or maybe not and we just happened to test and catch it this time.

All Ps are in place; he's eating really well and playing lots and purring lots and using the box regularly (and still doing celebratory poo dances afterwards). Last evening, he did seem hungrier than usual though. Food hasn't changed. He's still eating 2% carb (two different kinds of FF).

He's never had a dental. Maybe it's something we should ask the vet about?

I would look into a dental at any rate. If there is infection or inflammation brewing it will jump up to bite you later. Shadow needs 2 per year it seems. But there could always be something lurking under the gums so it's best to have it checked out before there are problems...
Good to see you two!

In true Johnny fashion, he was 62 at +3 tonight. Lowest number since his party. Sorry for any worries today! I just freaked out getting a 192, etc. out of seemingly nowhere and with higher numbers over the past 24 hours...

Thanks for being there for us again! A good reminder that I need to come by and visit/cheer on our friends more often. :)

Hi Janice,
nice to see you guys, but don't be giving us a jolt ok?
And look how nicely he came back down!
Possibly just a little blip.
Take good care guys!
