Gracie's 9/22 Condo
Good morning, our friends. DH is not here but, Carl, it is Wednesday. Perhaps I should start calling it Jose Wednesday since the pool service guy, Jose, comes every Wednesday and Gracie patiently waits for him on the window seat in a guest room window. Only on Wednesdays.
No recap today but Gracie is doing fine. I took her dose up a bit and she has been flat, low blue so I'm hoping the new dose kicks in soon and she starts churning out her greens. I'm sure she feels the stress and sorrow here but she has been playful and happy. Her coat looks so gorgeous and is silky. She and Tobey have been running and playing; it's cool enough here now to have the doors and windows open in the mornings and at night and they've been loving the fresh air. It always amazes me how fast her little tiny legs can run.
My DMIL passed quietly last night. They found on Monday that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and brain. Mike said they talked Monday about her going in to hospice and she actually was awake and ate breakfast yesterday morning. However, afterwards, she coded and they resuscitated her because one of his sisters was not there yet. They put her on a ventilator and kept her on morphine; she did not regain consciousness. After Julie got there and spent some time with her, they removed the ventilator, and she peacefully passed three minutes later. The doctors said her cancer was too advanced and she could not breathe on her own. But all four of her children and two of her grandchildren were with her and I do believe even if she wasn't conscious, she knew she was not alone. What more can any of us ask but to be surrounded by our most loved ones as we cross? The service is Friday and Mike will be home Sunday.
My cousin is still here and she's been wonderful...but she always is. Her mom has Alzheimers and also a much less aggressive form of lung cancer. Donna got a call yesterday that Aunt Betty was sick (my other two cousins live near her, too) but after the tests, they determined it is just asthma and the cancer has not worsened. Donna leaves on Friday.
So please forgive my absence and know we think of each of you. Thank you all so much for your prayers for my DMIL the other day. I'm not able to go to KY for the service but I'm trying to make necessary calls like to Social Security and Office of Personnel Management because Mom was retired civil service. And also working with Southwest to get the rest of her grandchildren to KY for the service as they will fly any and all relatives there for free....what an amazing company and they have been fantastic to Mike and me.
I should be back after Donna leaves Friday but I leave on Tues or Wed to see my mom as she is not well but it is not life threatening. She fell and has a hairline fracture on her femur and she's going through alot of depression right now so my sister from SC and I are going to be with her.
