yesterday was day 325 otj.... I hadn't tested since 9/14 with a 70, so about a week ago.
Today she is at 172... re-tested since I was slow getting the blood to the strip, and it was on my thumbnail.... so I hoped it was wrong but
retest was a 170.

Yesterday was difficult day.
We left at 1 pm.... Shadow eating her food... headed to Santa Fe for a renaissance festival.
When we left the festival, the air conditioner on the car wasn't cooling. My DH stopped at a store because my computer monitor was
acting like it was dying and I noticed smoke/steam coming from under the hood. And then saw the temp gauge was on Hot.
He checked stuff... said we had coolant.... things weren't overheating under the hood....
and we drove toward our dinner destination but the gauge continued to go as high as possible, stopped at Walmart, and he continued
checking it all.... and letting it cool down.
We drove a few more blocks and had to stop again. This time we happened right by a car shop and the guy was on his way home.....
but his 2 minute assessment was that it was probably the thermostat or the pump.
We could leave the car with him but he wouldn't get to it until Monday.
But we could probably drive with the heater on high. My dh took that option, fortunately my dd 's fiancé's family was in town too
so they followed us home .... at 30 -40 mph.

Anyway, I didn't get home until 9:30pm. Shadow's food was untouched. @-) She apparently stopped eating after we were gone and never
went back.
I fed her, but she barely touched it.... maybe ate 1/4 can small can all night. This morning she won't touch her food either, nor the treat.
I am thinking I may have to syringe feed her if she doesn't eat soon. nailbite_smile

I just got up and ran and gave her some ham deli slices and she ate that. Whew..... hate to give her that but I thought that might get the appetite primed a little.
I also gave her some Pepcid 15 minutes ago to see if that get's her to eat.

So....... I'll be checking again obviously today....... see if this is a fluke or if our remission status is over.

At least I have a pen in the fridge..... since I bought one last summer when we had a bout of higher numbers..... but today is higher than those were.
Hopefully it's a good pen.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 - oh drat.

'Morning Rhiannon

I'm sending lots of '''Be Well" vines to Shadow. Hoping it is a temporary little stumble, on her remission life

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 - oh drat.

interesting that in march when her numbers crept up you had her teeth cleaned and they went back down. i didn't see any comments about the dental - were there any infections or teeth that needed to be pulled? i'm just wondering what might be going on to cause her BGs to rise now.

don't think i'd worry too much til i had a couple of days of higher, not just one. i see some 150's on her ss in the last few months that have gone back down.

you do a great job of monitoring her even though she's OTJ, btw. some people just stop completely and given her numbers, i think it's smart you test regularly.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 - oh drat.

Yay on eating! If she isn't feeling well that can be the cause of the higher numbers, not necessarily the FD. Paws crossed you find out whats up soon.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 - oh drat.

Oh no. Say it ain't so!

Shadow, eat. Your momma bean needs you to eat your fuds.

Stop fooling around in the Blue Pool and get your fuzzy sweet self back to the Green Falls.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144

I hope Shadow starts feeling better and eating. Hopefully the higher numbers are just from whatever is bothering her. I hope you can get your car fixed soon.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144

Oh, no. I hope Shadow feels better soon. Wishing you luck with the car too.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144

so I ran to the store and also grabbed two different flavors.... friskies mixed grill and 9-lives liver and bacon hoping that something different would be more inspiring.
And I thawed a few raw shrimp.
She meowed enthusiastically for the shrimp so I chopped up 3 and she ate those. Yay!

She licked a morsel off the liver and bacon but quit.
I've opened at least 6 cans today and each one gets rejected.
But at least she is eating something. Guess she thinks it's junk food day. :o

She does looks disheveled today.

My only guess so far is I had gotten some "fresh is best" turkey hearts ( raw freeze dried) and gave her some yesterday... they don't crumble very well.
Maybe they bothered her stomach. ( nice normal poo last night tho')
She's not interested in me sprinkling on her "fresh is best" turkey giblets last night or today so that makes the hearts suspect to me. The droolers will get the hearts instead....
and if they show signs of yuck, then they will go in the trash. But as for the high numbers.... sigh :YMSIGH: , don't know....
hoping it's just the stress of not feeling so great.
Shadow isn't telling.......... nailbite_smile

Thank you. I really love remission and I want to keep her there. Especially for the next two Christmas seasons and wedding. Then my life should be boring enough again ....

OT: think DH got car fixed. The coolant had congealed ( likely from all the heat last night) but he hadn't changed it in a long time and thinks he may have caused it. It wasn't flowing
properly. He did change out the thermostat and put new hoses on.
he is now glued to football.
I'm a football widow. :-x

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144

Come on Shadow. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon. No more big numbers for you. Life at the falls is the best so don't mess around. :-D

Glad the car is fixed. Hang in there Rhiannon.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144

Sending all kinds of vines to sweet Shadow...feel better, eat up, and stay OFF the juice!!!

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144

(((Rhiannon)))
Sending eat well and feel better vines to Shadow.
I hope the higher numbers are due to whatever it is that's bothering her, and once it's clear she will head back down to the fall.

It's good she's eating something!
I know that you know that I know how hard it is when our kitties don't want to eat (sorry it's confusing but you know what I mean).
I really do, but they always come out of it.
I'm keeping faith in Shadow.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144 +7~85

85 is much better.

Just took 2 raw shrimp, the juice, and ff chunky chicken feast and put it in my mini food processor.
She's licking it.
Paws crossed she eats it all.

Re: 9/22 Shadow ambg 172 +4~144 +7~85

urine sample question :?:

I have the cat box with a reservoir for collecting samples.
I just washed it by hand. I'm wondering about any residue...would that show up if I missed something... like crystals? I've read that in other condos...
crystals in the urine.
Do I need to really scrub it before getting a sample for the vet?

Shadow has never had a uti, but I know that could change on me.
I know the sample needs to be fresh, within half an hour and then refrigerated so that will be a challenge for me. She is good at going when I'm sound asleep.

She did drink up most of her slurry shrimp chicken cocktail.
But her true food intake for the day is pretty small.
She is now hanging out with us instead of hiding in the bedroom.

the vet can do a sterile cystocentesis - not sure if i have that spelled correctly - they use a needle to withdraw a sample of urine from the bladder. if you use the box and it shows up as an UTI, you can't really know if that bacteria came from the box or not.

punkin used to get UTIs - until he became diabetic, then they stopped. i suspect the water intake when we switched to the canned food was why he didn't have any more. his signal to me that he had a UTI was that he would pee outside of the box. typically it would escalate - at first it might be in the laundry room on laundry on the floor, but if i didn't get the message quickly enough, he moved to our bed. WOO-HOO!! :o   THEN i always got the message! ;-)

as the years went by, the UTI would escalate to bloody urine very quickly. he probably had them 6 years in a row. i don't know what the fall timing was about, but they were all in the fall.

are you seeing any signs like that? or something that's making you think UTI?

Hi Rhiannon,

Hope Shadow feels better, her appy returns, and her numbers stay down. I know how worrying those higher numbers are.

Jane

No... just thinking of things that make others lose their otj status. She's never had a UTI.
And I think she's getting a lot of water with her canned food. She actually has to lap some off to get the food most days.

When she had that cleaning, I expected bad teeth but they were all fine.
Of course, she does have the Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion issue in her past. And I expect it will always be a strong possibility. She has all the little teeth in there...
mostly all the big ones have been pulled.

As I update her chart, she had her adequan shot on 9/18.

And her numbers are back to normal tonite.
Maybe she got stressed out last night when there was no food.... and no one walking in the door to open that can.
The dogs were pretty worried too. They get fed at 5:30 and it was 9:30 when I walked in.

I will be watching her like a hawk.
Lots of testing this week .....

Hi Rhiannon, So sorry to hear Shadow isn't feeling her best  Nice PMBG
Paws crossed for her numbers to come down, stay down and you figure out whats causing her higher numbers.

Sorry to hear sweet Shadow isn't feeling well today. Too bad she's not "overacting!" (from your cute clip posted on Shasta's condo!) Sending feel-better vines and it's-nothing vines to you and Shadow. Glad to hear that DH got the car fixed. Sleep well and give Shadow scritches from me!
