Saw a red yesterday after Libre replacement. Seems like he's getting more nervous about those than he used to. Poor baby just shakes the whole time. I think even despite using very gentle (but effective) adhesive remover spray that gets used for babies in the NICU, having the old one removed pulls the little bit of fur that's grown in and hurts. We're incredibly gentle and go very slow, but still. Poor dude. Anyway, BG is always extremely high after those lately.

I'm planning to shoot tonight (as an update for those who contributed to my question yesterday), I'm sure it'll be fine. I am planning to skip tomorrow morning, but only because transport to and from the vet interferes with injection time and 1) another thing I managed to forget in the midst of all the chaos is walking it back, but more importantly 2) he hates getting put in the carrier so much that if I have to do it within a two hour window of his shot he won't let me near him for them for a month. πŸ™„ Half a unit isn't worth all that IMO. Back to normal for PM cycle. Probably going to have to do the same thing two days later for his other appointment.

I've read through all the stickies/links, but if anyone has any other things I should know/keep in mind for tomorrow morning, please feel free to share! :)

Not sure if you've read this somewhere, but take in something that smells like you/him, such as a used towel/shirt, for his kennel. Also some of his regular food that they can feed him when they think he can eat. I've heard of the odd case of the vet feeding whatever they had in house, not always a good choice for diabetics.

When you pick him up and if they have it, a blood pressure test is always a good one to have on hand too. Not that you need it now, but might be useful a baseline in the future. When you get home, try just a little bit of food, space out tsps 20-30 minutes apart. Anaesthesia can mess the GI and you don't want him vomiting. Some people have some jars off all meat babyfood around (Beechnut or Gerbers). If his mouth hurts baby food is easy to eat and usually appealing. Compare his BG when you get him home to the preshot test to see if he's coming down (some anaesthesia inductions drugs do that). Use his BG trends and enthusiasm for food as a guide for shooting at PMPS. I've seen the odd person shoot a downward BG trend with a cat who doesn't want to eat due to a sore mouth. That's drama worth avoiding.

This is all fantastic advice; thank you so much, Wendy! I truly appreciate it.

Thank you so much, Mary! We'll take all the wishes we can get. I'm nervous, but hopefully it'll all go okay. I'm sad that I may never see his fangies again though. πŸ˜”
