Stella's Condo

Good Morning all! Stella is doing great this morning. All is well after a very rough afternoon yesterday. Honestly, I thought Stella was dying. I started crying it got very dramatic. I almost put her into a carrier to go to an Urgent Care and then I noticed what was causing the problem and I was able to assist her. You see, she was wobbly and I immediately took her BG. It was 115 so it wasn't a hypo. I thought despite her current upswing I thought she was letting me know it was time for her to go. I tried to pick her up and she fell to the side. I lifted her up and then she tried to go #2. I thought is she sick? Then she wobbled away to another location and fell over. I was devistated. I picked her up and she gave the smallest hopeless I am in pain don't touch me meow. I left her alone and she fell over again and her legss stayed partly in the air as she lie on her back. I then noticed a bit of Poo in her bottom. I realized it wouldn't come out. I thought it was too hard and she just couldn't puch it. I didn't know what to do. I thought if she ate or drank it would give her strength. She wouldn't do either. I then remembered how much she loves Petromalt the stuff for hairballs. I always thought it must taste like sugar the way she eats it. So I gave her some. She didn't want to stop eating it. Sure enough, it did the trick! She laid her big poop egg. Oh poor Stella. It took us all afternoon to get over that incident. Today her AMPS are 95 so it is behind us. Her BGs went up to 141 after the Petromalt. I expected that.

She is happy today. That is what matters.

Poor Stella! I'm glad she's feeling better today. Does she often have trouble with constipation? Are you giving her anything on a regular basis to help with that?

I'm so glad Stella is okay. That had to be really scary. She's looking good today, especially after her ordeal yesterday.

That must have been so scary yesterday. I'm so glad you found the answer and that Stella feels better today.

I don't know if you ever got an answer to the question on the next steps in Stella's dosing journey. I don't know how many "drops" you are doing, but at this stage we try to get people do a .1 of a dose. The longer kitty can stay on insulin even with a low amount is good to support the pancreas. Stella would stay on the "drops" dosage either until she goes under 50 (perhaps 3 times times as she is a long timer, or goes once under 40) or if she goes 7 days/14 cycles in a row normal numbers (50-120). At that point, depending on the number of drops you are currently doing, you could try just one drop. Or go the zero drop method and wave the syringe over her head. :-D
