Thought I would start a new thread, as the last one is getting a bit long.

Thank you, everyone, for the support and vines and prayers and hugs. Sorry I can't answer each of you individually, but I treasure each comment and you are helping me cope. :bighug:

Dr. Lim, the IM, just called. It wasn't a great connection, but I think I got most of what she had to say. Harvey is still in ICU, and will be for at least another day or two. They are having to go slowly in getting his electrolytes in balance, as to go too quickly could result in brain damage.

There is some concern about his heart - it's not enlarged, thank God, but they are hearing some abnormal sounds, so a cardiologist will be examining him today. All the fluids he is getting could be causing an issue there. There is some fluid in the pericardial sac (did I get that term right? I couldn't write fast enough).

They ran his b/w this morning and the creatinine and phosphorus levels have come down, hopefully indicating that this is an acute kidney issue, rather than a chronic one. Paws crossed.

The pancreas is enlarged and they are running p-titis tests. A urine culture is pending.

The doctors that saw him last night say that he is brighter and more alert today, which is good. They are not giving him his Lantus today, but are monitoring his BGs and will give R as needed.

I am going to try to go to see him around 6:00 pm, which is when Dr. Lim said she should be available to see me, too.

Please keep the vines and prayers coming. I'm going to stop on the way home and buy some lottery tickets. Awesome care is not cheap. ;)

Once again, thank you all for being there. I'm sorry I'm not doing any visiting right now. This is just a little too overwhelming for me, but I do care about all of you and your kitties are in my prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope you have a good visit this afternoon. Give that sweet boy an extra kiss on the head from me. Good to hear numbers coming down and I hope the heart is just a by product of the fluids.

The vines production factory is on overtime again. The trucks are on their way down the I-5. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Give the little guy some healing love kisses. As many vines as I have are all yours & Harvey's.

I'm sure he will enjoy some company from the Bean, sounds like a rough few days for the poor guy.:bighug:

More prayers and healing vines for Harvey, and (((hugs))) for his bean. Hope he is better soon. I'm sure he loved having you visit! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tricia, I'm sorry, I'm just now getting back online and seeing this. Sending lots and lots of extra big HUGS and prayers. Come on Harvey, you can do this...

More hugs for both of you,

Much love and hugs to you, and DH. I'm glad Harvey gave some alert/brightness. Paws crossed on the fluids helping more, and prayers for good vetty results and a good visit. Vines and more vines!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I got to spend about 10 minutes with Harvey. I had to go into the ICU room, so that's all they allow. He was completely out of it, so I don't know if he knew I was there or not. He didn't look sick - fur was soft and he was warm to the touch. So hard to believe how serious this is. :( I stroked him and whispered in his ear and kissed him - kisses and scritches from his aunties were delivered as requested. I told him he had to get better so he could come home and hog my chair.

Dr. Lim was in a procedure, but I got to chat with the student, Steven. I really liked him - he'll make a good vet. He was confident and knowledgeable, but didn't have that superior air that so many of the students I've dealt with have. When I asked about secondary hypoparathyroidism, he was intrigued and checked the computer to confirm what tests have been done. He was able to get a word with Dr. Lim before I left, and she said that it was a possibility, but not on the top of their list of concerns right now - getting the electrolytes balanced is primary at the moment. We'll look at everything else afterwards.

The cardiologist said his heart looks good :) - they did an echo, but Steven saw no record of a BNP, so he made a note to ask about that, too.

As they try to get his sodium down, he is on an IV that contains glucose, so they are watching his BGs. He went up to 388 this afternoon, so they gave him some R and he came back down to 188. He did eat a little food this afternoon too, which they were pleased about. The latest labs weren't in the computer yet, but Steven said he had just seen them, and they showed a little more improvement. He didn't have numbers to give me.

Someone will call me tomorrow with an update. Thanks for the continued vines and prayers. Please keep them coming.

It's nice to hear that you like the new student....It sure is helpful to have full confidence in the people who are caring for the most important thing in your life

Glad you got to see him. I know it had to be hard leaving him again though. 10 minutes really isn't enough time to deliver all those kisses and tell him everything you want to say, but it's best for him right now.

We're all here for you Tricia and sending all the prayers, vines, white healing light and anything else we can think of Harvey's way

Come on little buddy...keep fighting!!! You have a chair with your name on it waiting at home for you!!

Yeah for eating! :joyful::joyful: Sorry you couldn't spend any longer with him. :bighug::bighug:

If he had an echo, not sure you'd need the BNP test - I think they use it as a cheaper indicator than an echo. I'm so glad to hear a good report from the cardio vet! One less thing on the list.

I'm glad you got to see and love up Harvey, I'm sorry it wasn't longer:( It's nice when you have a good vet, and meet a good vet student that listens and helps. Very good news on the heart, better labs, and the eating! Keep it up Harvey, you need to get better to come home to your beans!

I hope you can get some rest, I am sending more vines and prayers. (((Tricia)))

I'm happy you saw Harvey. :bighug:This must be so difficult for you, me and Hugo are sending our best vines and whisper our prayers to the wind so it would carry them across the seas to you.

I am so glad that you were able to touch and hold Harvey! I bet he knew that Momma was there! Continued prayers for you and Harvey! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hey Tricia, I'm happy you saw Harvey and got to give him kisses and scritches, just sorry you couldn't have spent longer with him, I'm sure he knew you were there. Good news on the heart. Sending prayers and vines that everything comes into balance soon.
:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Tricia, I am sending lots of vines to Harvey and you and know how stressed you must be with all of this. One good thing is that you know he is in good hands where he is and trust that they will restore Harvey back to good health. Until then, I am hoping you are taking care of yourself and resting and eating properly. It is so hard on us beans with a sick baby let alone being in the ICU.

You are such a great momma to Harvey. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Tricia, I hope that today will bring lots of encouraging news about Harvey's condition. He is such a sweet kitty, and I'm sure that he knew you were there with him for those 10 precious minutes. He needs to get back home to his chair! We are sending lots of vines and prayers this morning.
:bighug::bighug::bighug:for you, and special scritches for Harvey.

Ella & Rusty

Yo Deputy Harvey, I'm keeping the Lifeguard Chair warm for you. Feel better, buddy.

Hoping Harvey is better today, and can come home soon. Prayers for you both, and hoping also that you can spend some more time together today. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I was pretty sure that his is an acute case of Kidney disease, not chronic, because the values rose so swiftly, and dehydration creates havoc in the kidneys. Hopefully the fluid in the pericardial sac (perfect sp) will resolve, but with any heart indications, it's very wise to have Harvey monitored by doctors.

The pancreas is enlarged and they are running p-titis tests. A urine culture is pending.

Oh, good. That will make a huge difference to Harvey

Just take care of yourself and Harvey. Purrs, prayers, vines, and libations to the cat goddess Bast, continue from us to you.

I agree with Wendy that you don't need the CardioPet ProBNP if they did an echo. It is just a cheaper way to give you an idea if there is heart muscle damage but they see that clearly, plus some, on an echo. For example, Tobey's BNP test was beautifully normal but he has a congenital valve issue that we have to watch and a BNP won't give any idea of that.

I do think it's good they are focusing on his electrolytes....an imblance can make one really sick. So it's important to first get them balanced and then figure out why.

Sending him lots more prayers and vines and more hugs for you, Tricia.

I am just seeing this. Excellent that you saw and comforted Harvey. They always know when we are there. I've also found that in a University ICU, the vet students are wonderful. Mine at Cornell was an absolute doll. He rarely left Simba's side. When I visited, he stood to the side to eat a sandwich - it was his lunch I think.
Very good that they are taking their time. All perks remain flowing towards you from us.
