Looking at his spreadsheet, he's still roller coastering. I had him to the vet a couple of weeks ago, just to check kidney values, and they did a senior panel plus fructosamine -- it was 434. The vet was going to contact the diabetes specialist at Texas A&M again, but figured we would be told he's an 18 year old diabetic cat, what do you want?
I'm feeding the same food as always, at the same time, and the same amounts. He basically licks the "juice" from the food and walks away. I usually take his food back to the bedroom - he'll eat better there (away from the bullies) and I give him his shot at that time.
He's been back on insulin since February, and we're no closer to stabilizing his numbers than we were back then. I'd increase his dose if he didn't take those nose-dives.
Is he bouncing?? I've tried everything I can think of -- we tried 3 shots a day, 4 shots a day, I've given him a drop when he's high at +7 (to hopefully keep him from going too high by +12) -- the vet says the insulin just doesn't seem to be lasting for him (that's why we've tried a bunch of stuff). He did mention adding another insulin in between, but, honestly, I really don't want to try to juggle 2 insulin schedules. And I do this by myself, because, while my husband will occasionally test Chuck, he's not at all comfortable giving him a shot or even figuring out how much to give, based on previous numbers.
