I have no idea what’s happening. I woke up at 345am to check Moonie, and as soon as she saw me, she jumped off the chair and led me to the testing room. So I knew she’d broken her bounce. And I got a 79. I was annoyed with myself because I’d snoozed a couple alarms, and by the time I was able to test her it was past +10 and I couldn’t feed her to flatten the drop.

But then she’s already back at 154 for AMPS? Did she already bounce? And if so, that seems so odd as she was flat at PMPS +2 and she normally doesn’t break bounces until +10.

Her patterns used to be pretty predictable but with the bouncing it’s just getting hard to tell. I wish she were spending more time in the greens, but because she showed us a 64 just 3 days ago, I know this is probably the right dose for now.

It's hard to know what happened. She could have nadired/broke the bounce earlier than the 79. She might have remained flat (she does that sometimes) from the nadir to the +10. She might have even had a double nadir--she does occasionally. I was looking for a p.m. cycle (like last night) where she went up after the PMPS, where you tested through to the end of the cycle, but I only see one back on 5/31, but that whole cycle was likely a bounce from the 99. So, I'm with you 🤷‍♀️

It's odd how their cycles change over time--sometimes that can be good; other times it's annoying.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our SS! Today is a real mystery, compounded by our earlier decision to cut testing frequency. It’s a little frustrating because her ears were perfect before our Ireland trip and now there are scabs including a big one on one ear. I can’t even be mad because I used to leave so many little scabs when I started so it’s not the sitters’ faults. So we’re going to wait another week or two to give them time to heal up, even if it means we stay in slightly less optimal numbers.

Hopefully Jude and Moonie decide to have a little beach day soon! 🏝️⛱️☀️
 
Please know that I wasn't criticizing testing frequency!! I was only trying to "figure it out" with you. She's gotten to the point where you shouldn't have to stay up all night--you normally have an idea what happens because you've gathered a lot of data. But, as I mentioned, cycles do sometimes change. And sometimes there's just an outlier, too. I do wonder why her little ears are scabbing. Jude will often have a little dried blood scab, but it's nothing of consequence. Are these actual sores?

Oh no I know that! Please don’t worry :)

I think it’s because the sitters maybe didn’t have the best technique while we were gone - either testing in the same spots over and over again or not applying enough pressure after.

Or maybe it’s a hematoma? I found this prior thread where someone had the same issue and it looks identical on Moonie. They’re not warm to the touch but I do think they’re sore as she doesn’t like those spots touched. :(

Am I giving my cat an ear hematoma by testing?:( Am I doing it wrong?

Gotcha!

Mostly unrelated, but interesting nonetheless, @Laurie&Petey's dog recently had a hematoma, and they used leeches to get rid of it. Fascinating!
