I haven't posted in a while because I've been insanely busy at work these past couple of weeks. I've got Europe meetings in the early mornings and A-PAC in the early evenings and it has really messed up my sleep schedule, not to mention how much overtime I'm working. (If only I weren't salary! ohmygod_smile ) I think I'll be done with this craziness after next week. @-)

I'm not sure what's going on with Michelangelo, but it's almost as if his morning shot isn't doing much more than keep his numbers from going even higher. He sure isn't dropping during the AMS as far as he does at night. Then, he starts to nadir by his evening shot time and, even with his PMS, he proceeds to climb back up sky-high by the next morning. :YMSIGH: Is his dose too high? Am I not raising it fast enough? Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

My first thought is maybe it's the Lantus. Your pen is 7 weeks old and maybe the insulin is toasty.

It also looks like Mikey isn't all that used to seeing green these days and as a result, is bouncing. Let's see how he does with the increase.

Thanks, Sienne. I hope it's not the pen because I have quite a bit still left in it now that he's not getting 2.5 BID any more.

Another question I've been wondering on, is it perhaps a sign of insulin resistance that his dose dropped all the way down from 2.5u to 1.25u after he got over his colitis and is now on the rise again, without any end in sight?

It could also have something to do with his weight gain and if he's still growing or not. Last weigh-in on 7/19, he was 13.4. Then, when he was sick, he'd lost about a pound when the vet weighed him and I haven't weighed him since. I just figured Mikey had stopped growing by this point (a year and 5 months old). Henry just turned a year old on Sunday and I don't think he's grown since he was about 9-10 months old. Michelangelo is twice his size now! :o

No weight gain. :? In fact, he seems to have dropped a pound since I took him to the vet and is around 11.4 right now. I'm wondering if my scale is broken because that seems at odds with how much he's been eating...then again, with his numbers this consistently high, he might be experiencing the "unregulated hunger."

Kay --
If Mikey is part Maine Coon, he's likely to not have stopped growing. Cats that are big breeds like Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, etc. are still growing at up to 5 years. Gizmo is a Forest Cat and is 4 yo. He recently had another growth spurt.

His weight had remained fairly steady for a couple of months there so I figured that if he was part Maine Coon, it wasn't the "growing" part. I'm going to weigh him daily this week and see if that 11.4 was really accurate or a scale problem or a weight fluctuation. He's definitely been feeling heavier and I thought he'd put on some weight from when he was sick. Henry's around 10 pounds and that's how light Michelangelo had been feeling, but definitely not any more, which is another reason I'm thinking my scale is lying to me. (Darnit! I wish it had been lying too high instead of too low. :-x )

I doubt his dose is too high, but it was kind of strange what the numbers did back when he wasn't eating and missed shots. :?

Good that he seems to be eating normally. Maybe his usual patterns are getting back to normal.
