I was wondering how he looked. Picture is worth a thousand words. Oh, Jamie, he does look pretty darn good and happy.

Is this how you expected it would be? How are you doing? I hope much better with this behind you and Jupiter home where he belongs.

Hi Jaime - I am so glad Jupiter is home, and doing well. I hope he will adjust to the crate. He really does need time to adjust to life after surgery, and being in the crate is the best way to do that. Get hiim used to it while is is still somewhat sedated. I know you want him to be as comfortable as possible, want to comfort him. I hope Jupiter will accept the crate better, Less chance of injury if he is more confined. Best of luck to you guys!

Heal well and quickly Jupiter. All of LL supports you, sends a ton of healing vines.

Great photos! Thanks Carl......

Jamie: I think Jupe looks amazing! He looks totally alert and so happy to be home.....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

So sweet that he was so happy to see you....naturally.

the family is all back together.....great.

I will reiterate what Bern wrote about the sling. Did the vet give you suggestions on how to help him move while we gets used to his new balance? And how to take frequent trips to the litter box with assistance?

When my dog developed vestibular disease...she was so extremely dizzy....she could not walk without falling over. I took a long towel and placed it under her belly and held the ends to hoist and lift her up and help her steady herself and kinda carry her along. This worked wonders. When she had to go to the bathroom, the towel would hold her weight. she eventually grew accustomed to her "new world" and slowly her brain and body just adjusted and she was fine.....just a normal walking dog. Just like Jupiter will too.

Well.....not like a walking dog....but you know.

He is so handsome .....I understand why you love him so.

~Kelly

Thanks for posting the pics, Carl. He does look pretty good.

i was surprised to see they took the leg much higher than they had originally indicated. I don't know but it seems to me this might be easier for him in the long run then just having a partial leg hanging down.

I hope you both rest tonight. I'm glad you've got pain meds for him.

I echo Kelly above - THAT'S where we used the pillowcase to help. Our GA sheltie had vestibular disease, we helped support her to walk until she could balance better by herself.

BIG HUGE HUGS! Jupe DOES look happy and it doesn't look bad at all - very clean.

Jaime, thanks for the photos, Jupiter looks great - incision area is very clean, too. He sure looks happy to be home! I like the sling idea, too & also spreading a bit of litter on the pee pads so he knows it's ok if he needs to 'let loose'. When he's up & running around again, you'll look back on these days & it'll feel like a different cat went through it - not the Jupe you see bouncing around! Lots of hugs & support - keep the updates coming!

I am so happy the handsome boy is home!! :-D He looks good in the pictures too! Hope you both get some rest tonight.

When my GA kitty was unable to walk (due to illness), I was able to just hold her in the litter box, and she just went on her own. Then I would carry her back to her bed. Not sure if that would work with Jupiter. Praying for the best for all of you!

Jane

Jamie, he looks really good. The incision site is so nice and tidy and looks very clean. I know that he is going to heal quickly. You've gotten some really good suggestions about towels and slings to help him get used to his new body. We are sending many prayers and healing vines tonight and hoping for a good night for you all.

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

I am so glad the Jupiter is home-
Jaymie- now comes the most difficult part of all- you must let Jupiter heal - hard part keep him contained from trying to move- do exactly what the vet has suggested. Hold him, talk to him and explain what has happened and yes this is in fact saving his life- then put him back into his space for tonight with kisses...This is so much harder on you than him- do not expect him to be able to get around while healing- in fact do not let him try until totally healed.

well we made it through the night!!!! when we woke up jupiter was in the litter box in the crate (really glad it was yesterdays news litter!!!) and he did get his cone off somehow but he didnt mess with the incision at all. Gave him some Bupe and he is a happy purry kitty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D :-D

Unfortunately, this means we cant use his normal litter in that box in case he lays in it... and it means he will probably not pee in that litter.... and we dont have anymore of that litter left..... I didnt expect for him to use it.... but I was afraid of him laying in it last night and since we had a bit of yesterdays news left, thought it would be worth a try.
(I am not sure what we are going to do quite yet, because at the moment I cant buy any yesterdays news litter.... but I cant risk putting normal litter in that box and then him laying in the litter and it getting stuck in the incision)

When I talked to the vet on the phone I asked what to do if he got litter in the incision. He said "you can use yesterdays news litter for 1 week (you can pick some up here when you pick up Jupiter) and after 1 week you can go back to normal litter. I told him we tried yesterdays news litter before and that Jupiter wouldnt use it. He said something like "okay then, you can use your litter then and just brush it off right away".....

its just that I dont think we expected him to lay in the litter... and his regular litter has such tiny particles and its kind of dusty so I am very worried about him laying in it at night...

Many years ago, when one of my kitties had foot surgery, the vet told us to use shredded newspaper. There weren't nearly as many litter options back then, and of course the box needed a LOT of extra attention. THere probably are better options out there today, but I wanted to toss this possibility out there anyway. I'm glad to hear he's happy and purry!

Jamie,
Jupe looks so content and happy to be home again with you ♥ You have been so strong for him thru this. You've done an AWESOME job!!
I think you will be amazed at how fast he will adapt. Animals are amazing!
You are the best bean ever :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
Prayers for a speedy recovery for all of you ♥

Jamie, for some "unknown" reason, even the best behaved kitty sleeps in the litter box when they are confined or sick - even when you go to Petsmart and see the kitties up for adoption, half of them are asleep in their box - even Ms. Tashie did it to my horror! I have noticed that at the hospitals they use shredded newspaper - NEVER litter. I would certainly consider that as there would be no dust or particles, it's cheap and easy. If you don't have a shredder, just cut skinny strips with scissors .... that will keep you busy :!:

Any chance you could use those crystals instead of litter? Or rice or beans? Seems odd, but the consistency might be more like litter to Jup and less dusty and dirty for his incision?

Glad Jupe is home and doing well. He looks so relaxed and happy to be with you. I agree with the shredded newspaper for the litterbox. I know my vet also suggested dried beans. Keep us updated on how he is doing.

My ex bf is a vet and whenever Alex or Jackson would lie in the litter box he always said "they do that when they don't feel well". I think it's a good idea to not let litter near the incision. Now isn't the time to throw caution to the wind... If Jupiter has to use the pan he will, regardless of what's in there or the floor soooo I might suggest getting puppy pads as well. Jackson went through a phase where he didn't like any litter but he liked the pads so I put them in a litter box and monkey see, monkey do...Alex used that pan also. Something about the scent I think. May be worth a shot?

I'm so glad Jupiter is home and the surgery is over and was successful!

xoxo
