Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

Jamie, that is GREAT! Now, do Jupe AND yourself a favor - get some rest! Really, starting tomorrow will be a whole new game and you need to be up for it. Jupe is resting, so now you must - FOR HIM! Sweet dreams..... if you sleep now, tomorrow will be here sooner ;-)
And then you'll be picking up your baby.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

FANTASTIC NEWS!! So happy Jupe came through his surgery and is doing well!

Add my voice into the chorus of YOU need to get some rest tonight, and be ready for him to come home tomorrow. We know you'll hover over him for awhile, so you need to get your rest when you can...and a good meal wouldn't hurt either.

Take care of you for now...Jupe's where he needs to be and is most likely going to snooze the night away.

Big Hugs for you!

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

I'm glad it's finally done.
Joining the chorus is hoping you can take advantage of a good nights sleep.... and dream of having him home.
Maybe this is the night to take one of those meds that help you knock yourself out.
Bigs Hugs....

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

did i mention that i also passed a kidney stone today? what a day! good thing i picked dane up earlier when i did because i was having sharp pain and i was so worried about jupe and had to wait for him to get home to take any pain meds

*sigh* been a long day.

we went to store to buy jupiter catnip and canned food and ff appetizers. then dane had to go back to the store to get benadryl for me.

getting ready to eat dinner now (a late dinner @ 9:40pm) and then hoping to get some sleep!

i will post an update tomorrow morning after we bring Jupiter home!!!!! thank you all so much

yay!! I'm so happy the surgery went well .. I'm so sorry to hear about the kidney stone .. ouch! Your dinner is probably done now and hopefully you are sleeping soundly and that in the morning you are fully rested and ready to get your boy!!

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

I feel really anxious... I am shaky and jittery. I thought confronting the issue and just telling Dane how I felt would make me feel better. Usually just telling someone how I feel helps me deal with it.... but didnt seem to help. On a lot of pain meds all day today... keep like... thinking "where is jupe" and keep looking beside me thinking he will be there. Just want him home. ieleiana did come lay beside me tonight though - I think his sisters are wondering where he is. I did tell them Jupe will be coming home in the morning and I asked them to please be nice and welcome him and help comfort him over the next few days.

I am so scared and worried that when I bring Jupiter home... I wont know what to do. I will be scared to pick him up... I will be scared for him to lay on my lap....

I am scared he wont be happy to see me.... I wonder if he will just be confused.... I wonder if he will even want to get out of his carrier. I am scared he will be in pain.... I know they are prescribing him Bupe.... but doctor said he has staples and stitches. Just worried about him.

I am just hoping and praying things go well these next few days will go well. I really appreciate you all visiting today and letting me know that Jupiter, Dane, and I are in your thoughts and prayers.

It would mean so much to me if you guys will continue to keep Jupiter in your thoughts and prayers so he heals, recovers, and adjusts well.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

I'm keeping both Jupiter and you in my thoughts tonight Jamie. BTW, Jupe with be ecstatic to see you tomorrow. I'm glad you are spending time with Jupe's sisters tonight. They can probably detect your worry, and they might not get as much attention the next couple of days so it's good to cuddle them now.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

I am so scared and worried that when I bring Jupiter home... I wont know what to do. I will be scared to pick him up... I will be scared for him to lay on my lap....

talk with the vet tomorrow and ask these questions and ask her to show you how best to handle him, maybe even practice with the vet watching.

I am scared he wont be happy to see me.... I wonder if he will just be confused.... I wonder if he will even want to get out of his carrier. I am scared he will be in pain.... I know they are prescribing him Bupe.... but doctor said he has staples and stitches. Just worried about him.

he will be thrilled to see you and he may not want to move too much when he gets home so yes he may stay in the carrier and let him, he probably should be quiet for a few days anyway.

something I know you may not want to hear or consider but might be worth considering and the only way to know is after you go there tomorrow - but it may not be a bad idea to keep him at the vet for a few days. I know you don't want to hear this or do this and if it were me - I'd be saying are you kidding me NO F'in WAY @-)

Hear me out - he may be in a lot of pain and not ready to get back on his paws and staying at the vet in confined space, supervised and on iv bupe maybe the best place for him. I suggest keeping an open mind and discussing with the vet to see how he is in the a.m. and what the vet thinks - even one day or picking him up at 5 pm instead of 9 am will just give him more time to heal .....I know, shut up Hillary..... :-x

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

((((Jamie)))) I think you just have to let tomorrow take care of itself. It isn't helpful to dwell on possible problems. Try to be positive. Jupiter will be home and he will be happy to see you, even though he will undoubtedly still be in pain and still on pain killers. Think of how you would feel on the day after you had a serious operation. You would want to sleep and heal. Jupiter also might just want to sleep! Communicate to him how proud you are of him that he underwent his surgery so well. Tell him that he is your hero. Tell him that he is going to have a happy life with the family he loves.

Try to stay calm and loving. We know that you can do this.

Get some sleep now!

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

The last time he ate was at 7pm last night. so tomorrow at 9am it will 38 hours without food. He will be too scared so he wont eat at the vet... atleast he never has in the past. So I dont think him staying there is a good option for him. We do have a crate here set up for him.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

Jamie, I am so sorry you are scared. Try not to fret. Breathe. Send Jupe your love. He needs it. He maybe too out of it to reciprocate right now, but he will get what you send.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

Ooh - just got back home - had to see how Jupe was - whew! Much relief for you that everything went well. With a doctor, usually no news is good news. I agree with everyone - staying away is best for Jupe, esp. if that's the vet's wish. I visited my v. sick dog once - when I left the vet said she cried for hours until she was hoarse - and asked me not to visit again. Jupe will sleep & sleep tonight. Many prayers & hugs to you that you'll be able to sleep too, & wake refreshed to take care of him tomorrow. Many hugs to you & Jupe!

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

Food isn't the number 1 problem for now Jamie...If you've ever had a major surgery, you can probably remember that the next few days, food didn't even sound good. Since Jupe is OTJ, it's not terribly important for him to eat. Even if you bring him home, he may not feel much like eating, so please don't let that concern worry you. He'll eat when he's hungry and feeling better. The meds he's on may also make him a little nauseous and when you're sick to your stomach, the last thing you want is food.

If you bring him home, he'll need to rest much more than eat, at least for a day or two. You don't want to push food on him too soon either, since he may just throw it back up and he doesn't need that either.

Talk to the vet tomorrow..tell him your concerns and let him guide you. He's been so good to both of you so far, I don't think he'd suggest anything that wasn't for the best now.

Keeping you all in my prayers

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

So glad you got a report hope that puts you more at ease,I know it's hard to sleep and so many things running through your brain but try and rest big day and lots to do, Take care hun healing vines to you all.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

I was really hoping to get some sleep tonight. We didnt get much sleep last night because Jupiter kept meowing for food. I thought it would be a good time to catch up on some sleep too, so that I would have a little more energy to take care of Jupe these next few days.

As much as I want to relax, stay calm, and not worry... thats just impossible. I think I could worry less, and maybe deal with the worry better, but cant eliminate the worry itself.

It does help me worry less knowing that you are all here for us, supporting us, sending us thoughts and prayers.

Although I am still scared, I know Jupiter will adjust, and I know it will take time. I know I will learn how to take care of him and to better help him adjust.

Sometimes I think I just need reminded of that ^

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update-surgery-worried & scared about tomor

Jamie,
It's so easy to say "get some sleep" but so hard to do it, huh? I'm thinking that for the next few days, Jupe is going to be pretty loopy. The pain meds will keep him that way. So what you see tomorrow when you bring him home is not going to be "the new Jupe". He'll get to that point, but it won't happen immediately. I'm positive that he will realize you are there when you pick him up, and he will realize he's home when you get him there. And I'm also positive that what he's going to really feel is that he's surrounded by love. He might act "scared", but that'll be the meds talking. And he may or may not be hungry, but I'd guess not so much at first. Again, the meds and the post-op recovery will probably diminish his appy. They might even suggest you syringe feed if need be.

Try your best to just take things an hour at a time. Do try to get some sleep, even if it's just cat naps. We'll be right here whenever you need us, you know that.

Hugs, sweetie,

Carl

Jamie just sent me some pics and asked me to post them, so here are the first two, of Jupe's new apartment once he gets home. The next post will be 3 pics of Jupe from the past couple of days.

Sending prayers that all goes well when you pick Jupiter up this morning. Remember he just had major surgery and won't be feeling like himself right away. It will take time and he will probably just want to sleep and may not want to eat much at first. Just take it one step at a time. I hope you got some sleep last night. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Jamie --

Quite a few years ago now, unbeknownst to me, Gabby ate dental floss. (I had guests and they were not cat people and didn't bury the floss in the trash.) The short story is that Gabby had major abdominal surgery. They opened up her entire GI track to find the floss. She was miserable at the vet hospital and was barely eating. The vet had me bring her home less than 36 hours after surgery. She wasn't supposed to jump. The first thing she did after walking out of her carrier was to jump on my bed and lay down on top of me. I'm not sure that either one of us really moved for about a week. I was very nervous about picking her up given the location of the incision. I had to pick her up due to the number of medications she needed after the surgery. Everything went fine. The only time Gabby seemed displeased with me was when I was trying to get her liquid antibiotic down her throat. The bathroom walls and I wore a lot of very pink amoxycillin.

Jamie, The time is coming close when you'll be bringing Jupiter back home .. I'm hoping and praying that jupiter will come home, be on the mellow side and once he's in his new apartment, he'll just nibble a bit and relax the best he can .. Update when you can ..

So glad to see Jupe's surgery went well and he's recovering. I've had a kidney stone and OWWWW, so you have my sympathies on that too, especially at such a trying time. Hope you managed to get some sleep last night.

I also had to deal with a kitty after major surgery - my Dusty had an adrenal tumor removed which basically meant they opened up his belly and reached to almost his spine. He was hospitalized for days. Anyway, the point is that I also was scared to death when he came home, afraid he'd hurt himself and afraid I'd hurt him when giving medications since he fought like the devil despite compounded meds. (I don't know what they compounded them with, but he HATED them.) He pulled through just fine. (If I had another kitty with major surgery and a boatload of meds, I'd ask about getting a feeding tube put in. Makes meds a non-event, and simplifies feeding if that's necessary.)

Jamie, just looked at the clock - it's 9:01 AM where I am and ((think)) it's the same for you. Just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you and that you'll have Jupe home soon. I sorta hope he's dopey so that BOTH of you can get some down time. Hope the day goes well!

Fondly,
Bern

Hi Jamie - hope you are getting some rest! Hang in there-I would be exactly the same way although I would probably resort to prescription drug use. I'll be sending prayers for quick healing for Jupe and calm for you! Just take it one day at a time and try not to be thinking ahead - that's usually what stresses me out...Most importantly, take care of yourself so you can take good care of the recovering baby!

Getting ready to leave the house to go pick up jupiter!!!!! So excited to see him!!!!!! Crate is all ready for him! We got treats for him, catnip, his fav flavors of food, and some FF appetizers! (Thanks Rhiannon!)

and apparently i forgot to click submit earlier before we left.....

WE ARE HOME WITH JUPITER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting the pictures! Looks like Jupe has a nice cozy apt. waiting for him when he gets home. Also looks like there are a few other kitties who may want to "move on up" to the west side, lol

Jamie....I know you probably are home and you are dealing with your new journey with Jupiter at the moment, but I want to let you know that we are all here with you...rooting on Jupe and you and Dane. Give us an update when you have a chance!!
