Jupiter is at the vet for surgery. I dropped Dane off for work so I could have the car today. I am mostly worried about Jupiter because I know he will be scared at the vet. I know once he gets home he will be so glad to be home and I will do everything I can to make him happy.

Dropped him off at 8:30am and its now about 12:30pm and I have not yet heard from the vet. They said they weren’t sure what time the surgery would be started or what time the vet would call but they said they would let me know when hes done with the surgery.

I will post an update here once I hear from the vet.

Thank you all so much for the support you have shown us these past few weeks :YMHUG:

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

We're all holding the space for Jupiter, today - not surprising you haven't heard from the vet yet - they probably have him queued with other kitties in surgery, & they'll want to see him Be awake a little before they rush the gun & call you. Sounds like you're doing great, Jaime - keep breathing & keep repeating how successful & easy the surgery is /was & how quickly & well Juipter's recuperating & healing.

We'll be looking for your updates!

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Just disrupting to check on Jupiter. I won'tbe surpr ised if it's late afternoon before the call. My vet does surgeries between 10:30 and 2:30.

Did you have time to find the Accu-Cat book?

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Hi Jamie, I don't know if I've posted to you before but I wanted to say I've been reading your updates and am sending you calming vines and happy healing vines to Jupiter. I'm thinking of you both today and hope you will hear from the vet soon:)

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Sending many, many calming and healing vines to sweet Jupiter, you, and Dane :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: .

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

I know I am not the only one who had you and Jupe in our thoughts and prayers all night and all day today. I kept thinking about you last night trying to tell Jupe he really wasn't hungry......

So happy that the day is finally here.....and now it will all be good health from now on......

You are so courageous....

Update when you hear something....I agree with Bern, it will most likely be late this afternoon

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

I am really starting to worry. I am going to go pick up Dane from work... hes going to leave a little early to come home.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

When I was waiting at the hospital for BigMac to be out of surgery it was a very long and scary day... and to keep me distracted I received some funny pictures and then Karrie and Maverick sent me this, which caused me to just crack up in the waiting room.

Hope you get a little laugh too.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

(((Jamie))).....I've been saying little prayers all day for you and Jupiter. I know how worried you are, Jamie; waiting is the hardest part.
*C'mon phone, ring with the good news, that Jupe's surgey is all over and went swimmingly well!*

Tons of love and hugs for you and Dane and sweet Jupiter.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Come one phone..............ring!! Bring Jamie the news she has been "patiently" waiting for. That Jupiter is out of surgery, doing fine, and dreaming sweet dreams in la la land! Jamie, my tummy is in knots too. Thinking of you!

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Piling onto the chorus of good wishes for you, Dane and Jupiter today. I'm glad you've got Dane there with you now. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Same thing happened to us the first day of radiation therapy that Neko had in Colorado. They called a lot later than I thought they would, but they wanted to make sure she was awake and well enough to go home before they called. I think I paced a lot that day. But the fact that they didn't call earlier is a good sign.

RIng, phone ring! And please don't let it be telemarketers.  That's what always happens to me when I'm waiting for the phone to ring.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

I called and asked if they began his surgery yet and she said yes but vet is working on another animal right now. I asked if Jupiter was okay and she said yes

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

I'm glad you called and and got the news that so far so good .. Fingers crossed it won't be much longer now .. I'm glad you are not alone ..

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Just tried to call you. Waiting with you and the rest of the board is, too. Not too long now, I hope. What time zone are you in? It's only noon here.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Its already 3:38pm.... we dropped him off 7 hours ago.... thought they would have called by now. I really wanted to go visit Jupiter and I would assume they close soon

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

That's a load of crap. I can see that being true in some instances for some animals, but you know he's bonded to you and probably not happy by himself.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter - cant visit? Causes stress?

How about going there and talking with the vet and maybe doing that, the vet will allow visitation. The worst that will happen - they send you away, the best, you get to spend a few minutes with him.

Nothing to lose you know.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter - cant visit? Causes stress?

Dang makes me appreciate my vet. He encourages visitation. Even when Akela had his knee repair done and he was on an iv morphine drip and totally out of it.... They let me see him.

Every time Izzy is admitted I disrupting their day every day and they were happy to bring her to a room so I could visit.

So quite frankly I call BS on that.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter - cant visit? Causes stress?

Just my two cents but the vet could be right. My Papaya haaaaates being in the carrier and starts howling/meowing morosely as soon as the door closes. Last time I was loading her up at my parents' place, I took a load out to the car while Papaya was crated inside. Mom was in another room so Papaya thought everyone was outside - and she settled right down and was quiet. Cats are pretty adaptable and accepting of new situations if they need to be, so if you're not there he won't have an expectation of going home right now. He'll be coming home soon, focus on that.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter - cant visit? Causes stress?

I think if the vet feels too much stress. Stay away. Call and talk to the vet about the procedure. Your stress level will be felt by Jupiter. Now he needs rest and quiet just like people. He will feel all your stress and tension.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter - cant visit? Causes stress?

Jamie, I said some of this to you in a PM ...

Jupe is about 6 hours post op. Amputation is potentially a very painful procedure, and the best thing they can do to lay the foundation for proper healing is good pain management. That means heavy IV pain meds. If he sees you, he will try to move and get up. He needs to let his site heal, and he needs to let the pain meds work. He will sleep like a rock tonight. Visiting on another day ... yes, sure. Visiting a few hours post-op? I say, no, it is not a good idea. They will not move him to a visitors room tonight, dragging his IV pole. Also keep in mind that this is likely the doctor's surgery day, and that there are several patients in there recovering post-op. This is a busy time for tech staff. The main priority is patient care. I haven't heard anything that sets off alarm bells. I think that things likely went as expected, and that he is recovering quietly, or else you would have heard. Please prepare your questions for his care going forward, perhaps about how the leg tissue looked today and if they saw anything worrisome there, and focus on the healing ahead. Jupiter needs you to be strong, not upset. Please try to get some rest tonight and be ready to bring him home.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Hi Jamie. I know you are anxious beyond the realm, but I do have to agree with Linda (and Bearman). What she said makes absolute sense. My vet has certain times set aside at the end of the day to call his patients beans with updates, etc. If this is surgery day, your vet probably is very busy and can't take/make calls. I'm sure when he gets a free moment (after HE breaths and possibly has a little coffee or soda break because, after all, surgery is very stressful not only on the patent but on the surgeon!) he will call you!

And I do think that Jupe may be to sedated to even care if you are there and if he does, he just may want to move around, which wouldn't be very good for him at this point. You did give them one of your shirts for his kennel, right? That should help him by smelling you.

Hugs!!!

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Jaimie. I have to agree with linda. you know this surgeon came very highly recommended and they know what you have gone through cause your new vet more than likely told them and they have the records.

I would trust their judgement on this. I know how hard it is not being able to see Jupe tonight, but I think it really is for the best. this was a big surgery.call and see if you can talk to someone about the surgery and when you can come in tomorrow. get a good nights sleep cause you will want to be awake all day tomorrow if I know you.

hugs my friend

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Hi Jamie. I'm glad that Jupiter is through his surgery. I know tonight will seem to be the longest night ever but he's where he needs to be at this point in time. Tomorrow you and he will be rested and ready to start his new journey together.

We have you in our Prayers.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Jamie, trust me, I KNOW how hard this is! But to chime in with the others, I agree that there are usually one (or two) days a week set aside just for surgeries. The front desk is usually quiet and it's all happening in the back. Although we all know how important Jupe is, there are others having surgery today that fee the same way because it's their baby too. Jupe will be heavily medicated and will need his rest - you will also need to get yours because there will new journey ahead.

When I say I KNOW how hard it is, Boris, my 15 1/2 year old had chronic cystitis for many years - it's life threatening in a male cat. Finally, at around age 9, I made the BIG decision for him to have PU surgery. I was told it is a very bloody surgery and he would need time to heal. I made the HUGE decision to keep him in hospital for 6 days - so he could heal there and rest. It was very hard but I felt it was the right thing to do - I missed him like crazy but when I did get him home, he was well into the healing process and was ready to come home.

You have to try to believe in the doctors and trust in what they are doing. It's hard but you can't amputate a leg so you have to leave it in their (and Gods) hands. Go do something and TRY to take your mind off things - they will call you. I know each second feels like an eternity but the phone never rings when you want it to - now does it? As soon as you go do something - get in the shower / make dinner / whatever ..... the phone WILL ring! Guaranteed!

Until then, you have half the universe rooting for you & Jupiter! There are strong prayers here!

xx

Re: 9/12 Jupiter

Talked to the vet. Surgery went very well and Jupiter is doing okay. He is getting the gabapentin and IV buprenex. They will check on him at 11pm and if all is well I wont hear from them tonight. I will be picking Jupiter up at 9am. Cant wait for him to come home. Glad the surgery went well!

Thank you all so much for the vines, positive thoughts, and prayers

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

well, there ya go. now you can get a good nights rest. he is on a lot of pain meds so he will have a pain free and will sleep the night away.

so glad all is well

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

(((Jamie)))

I agree with Bern and the others. It's very hard for you (would be for any of us) because you have been so focused on Jupiter for so long now. It's natural to be worried and upset.....we all would be.

I think some calming breaths might help :-D :-D Visualize Jupiter resting easy and coming home tomorrow. Visualize peace and calm and quiet. Then eat the biggest piece of Double Fudge Chocolate Pecan Red Velvet cake you can find with double ice cream ;-)

As with all things....baby steps. Each baby step you take is achievable. You don't have to take one big step at anytime. Take the baby step to get some food. Then take the one to get some rest because you will need your strength to take care of Jupe. Then you can take the baby step to get him tomorrow.

Prayers for calm and peace and healing for Jupiter.

Re: 9/12 Jupiter-update- surgery went well - Jupe is ok!

Relief, relief!!!! Thank God!
Please take some comfort in this very good report.
I also agree with those who said that it might be too stressful for Jupe if he were to see you. He needs good rest tonight. His body has gone through major trauma and tomorrow at 9AM is not far from now.

Easier said than done, I know. But he has a lot of healing ahead of him...he needs to sleep tonight!

Hugs and kisses to you all xoxo
