Definitely need to learn more about how and why his numbers move. Checked him at 630am (+11) and he was 378. Fed him his breakfast - he ate, checked him at 730am and he was 316.
Gave him his 1 unit.
Hoping he starts to flatten out a bit in the week ahead so I can make better informed decisions about him. :?

Again, thanks to everyone for their help with shooting last night.

Morning Tara....not sure I understand what you wrote about the food...
did you feed him at +11?
We do a test at about +12 which is his PMPS time and then feed and shoot.
It is best if the kitty has been fasting for at least 2 hours before that time. so, if you are giving a snack, it's best to do it at +8 or +9 and then do not feed until you do the preshot test.

From what you said, Austin had food in him an hour before you did the AMPS
...is that correct?

Thats what it sounds like.
Tara, Pat is correct.

With Lantus you don't want to have food on board in the two hours before shot time...or else you will may see a food influenced pre-shot number.

Please keep this in mind for your next pre-shot.
No food till you get the +12 PMPS or AMPS number. Post here if you need help and once you are in the clear, you can proceed to shoot and feed.

The process takes some getting use to, but it is one of the ways Lantus insulin works best.
