Morning LL,

Yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=21780

AMPS 324
+4 331 (OT)
+4 259 (RO)
+10 302 (OT)
+10 270 (RO)
PMPS 320 (OT), 280 (RO)

I switched to the Reli-On meter yesterday. I cross tested with the One-Touch 3 separate times with these differences in readings: 72 points, 32 points, and 40 points. Then I ran out of One Touch strips. I tested 3 times last night with the Reli-On, the 2nd and 3rd time I ran the same blood drop twice with the following differences in readings: 16 points and 6 points. (I also took my BG and tested from 77 to 96). I don't think this meter is reliable. I also think it gives numbers that are much lower than they really are. Anyone else had a similar problem??

So, this morning Ollie's AMPS was 220 and 187 (using the same drop of blood). Given that the average Reli-On reading is ~48 points low (vs. the One Touch), I dont' think I'm really seeing Ollie's BG drop. His 'real' AMPS could potentially be somewhere between 292-219. I am going to go back up to 1.25 units.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Both meters are widely used here and get good marks by Consumer Reports. One factor I don't think you're including is that there is a 10 - 20% variance between each test and/or meter due to normal measurement variance. If you tested the same drop of blood on two different meters or tested using the same meter, you would not necessarily get exactly the same number. There could be as much as a 20% difference.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that, thanks Sienne. A difference in 77 points makes me really uncomfortable. I had been basing everything off a meter that read consistently higher. Also, my BG is never lower than ~100 (I've tested it a zillion times) so I really do think that the meter is reading a bit low. I'll just have to factor that in I guess.

Still on board for an increase back up to 1.25 units?

Thanks,

Re: 8/8 Ollie AMPS ~220????? *QUESTION*

No two meters will give you the same reading if if they are the same brand. It is confusing, but that's the way it works.
I used a Contour in the beginning but then opted for the Reli-On micro because of the price of test strips. I noticed a difference between the two also but my Raja was going low at the time...on her way to OTJ and I wanted to err on the side of caution by using the one that read the lowest. Whichever one you choose to use, just stick with that one and eliminate your time spent on testing both.
Using only one meter will keep it simple. If you go to the vet office, the reading will be different too. It's just a gauge isn't it? If you take the blood from a vein, it is a different reading altogether...so choose one and stick with only that one.....
I have gotten the same reading by using two Reli-Ons with different blood drops taken right after the other. I was amazed that the numbers matched perfectly since there is so much variation from one test to another... :o

good luck with the dosecrease!

My advice is to pick one meter and stay with it. I would rather have one that reads a little low than a little high, given a choice.
