WCR: Meowzi continues to do well, aside from the slight acid-base imbalance that I am making little headway understanding. She's been in good spirits, has a new cardboard box cubby, and has been visiting the kitchen lots in the hopes of getting treats from the magic box (fridge) She continues to be very needy, and has been following me around like a puppy dog, from room to room.
We survived the week without daddybean, who was off in Toronto visiting relatives that we didn't know he had LOL. It hasn't been easy trying to syringe-feed her on my own - she's not as good for me as she is for her daddybean. She's been very patient with SQuids though, despite her mommybean being all thumbs. But we made it. Aside from squirting out close to 40 units of insulin into the sink, SQuiding the carpet 3-4 times, and syringe-feeding the carpet, the freezer, the fan, her nose, forehead, my hair (I nearly went to work with dried cat food in my hair one morning!), I'd say things went pretty smoothly
She ate rx renal food all by herself three times this week! I know it's junky, but anything that she eats all by herself has us cheering. She's also been consistently eating her Friskies pouch lunches dailiy.
I mistakenly left newspapers and a couple pieces of mail on the stairs one evening, and woke up in the morning to damp newspapers, mail, and sandals. I think she peed on the newspapers ohmygod_smile. When I looked at the mail, I figured out why - it was from Cali's insurance company - they had denied the claim for her pre-dental cardiac workup. Meowzi was obviously displeased with that, and she showed them, clever girl
Her new compounded amlodipine chew treats came this week; they're a big hit, but sadly, we think it may have too much sugar for her  We've been tracking her BGs in the evenings, and it sure looks like the chewies are raising them significantly. I had braced for a slight increase, but what we're seeing is more than slight. Her varing Lev shed due to my inconsistent dosing throughout the week - more on that later - may also be a factor, but I think the chewies have to go.
We had new neighbours move in today, they were very impressed and amused that she lay outside, all calm at all the commotion, sunning her pancreas and watching them move furniture in. A couple of them stopped to pet her and told us about having to put their own cats down ohmygod_smile. I told Meowzi to pretend she didn't hear any of it.
OT: Civie update: Cali Imp had her root canal last Tuesday, before daddybean left, and seems to be doing alright. She's scheduled for a re-check with the veterinary dentist on Monday. She had been mopey all week while daddybean wasn't here (she's daddy's girl, through and through) but then she ran from him last night when he came home LOL.
Bean update: had my annual eye exam yesterday, and doc confirmed what I already suspected, that I now need bifocals. It explains why I've been struggling to draw all her syringe meds and supps. I wore magnifiers all week and still had trouble. Doc's recommendation: take off my glasses and I'll have perfect near vision! I tried it last night, and he was right! All week long, I'd been drawing and squirting and re-drawing and re-squirting and re-drawing her insulin, and tossing syringes because I kept missing the stupid little rubber stopper and bending the needles - when all I needed to do was take off my glasses! Of all the things I tried, that one never occured to me! ohmygod_smile
