Hopefully, she's starting to settle down now - but she was running away from me this morning.

A sprinkle of powdered chicken liver seems to get her interested in food, and she does seem to like the Stella & Chewy's. She just never eats enough of anything. Ugh.

hi amy
hope sunshine does better and starts eating. it took mine over a week to start eating after he came home from 4 days at vet for dka when he was first diagnosed. we are keeping paws & fingers crossed for you.

Re: Sunshine AMPS 258 PMPS 279

Thanks, Tibbs' person!

This was a day when I really wished I had some awesome work-from-home job! (Anyone know of one they can tell me about?? LOL) SOMEone ate most of Sunny's food, but I'm willing to bet it was Simon-cat, not Sunny, given that Simon's food was mostly untouched. She was happy to eat about a tablespoon each of FF Kitten Turkey and Meow Mix Turkey & Giblets, followed up by 2 crumbled nuggets of Duck Duck Goose. That's the most I've seen her eat since she got back!

Having trouble getting to the SS, but I'll update it ASAP.

that's still progress. i had to dance and sing to get mine to eat ( i kid u not. lol) when he first came home i was giving him anything just to get him to eat. since he started eating we are working on getting him completely on the wet high protein. we're getting close but not totally there yet. try the dancing lol. kitty may like it and start to eat.
ok Sunshine, please start eating so ur mom doesn't have to worry anymore. Tibbs is sending you hunger vibes. lol

Hi Amy,

I come in and read Sunny's posts about once/week. I have two observations.

1. Could you put the date in your subject line? I get easily confused.

2. Are you adding water to reconstitute the Stella and Chewy's? I have seen many reports of cats getting dehydrated/constipated on dry S&C, unless it is used solely in small amounts as a treat or as a wet/raw food topper.

Re: Sunshine AMPS 258 PMPS 279

Sorry, Venita - yes, I'll start putting the date in again. Forgot about doing that!

For Sunny, I'm not rehydrating the Stella & Chewy's, because it really is being used more as a treat than a meal. She eats 2 bits at a time. If I notice problems with it, I'll start adding water. I'm a bit afraid to, since it's one of the few things she's willing to eat right now, and I don't want to mess it up!

Amy,

If she'll eat consistently the Sheba cuts/shreds that Jenna found she liked. Then why not let her just have them? Yes it might make it difficult to get her OTJ but exactly what is wrong with her remaining a microdose kitty? At least you'd know for sure she had eaten enough to give insulin to.

Because she WON'T consistently eat them. She won't consistently eat ANYTHING. I don't care what the carb values are - I'm just trying to get her to eat something. I put Sheba Cuts on her plate, and she walks away. I bought a ton of that stuff, so trust me, I would love for her to eat them! I gave her a little kitty buffet on her plate this morning (a mix of cuts/shreds and pates), and all she did was lick the Sheba Cuts Chicken a few times, then walked off. She did decide to steal a bunch of Zanzibar's Sheba Pate Beef & Chicken, which I was happy for her to do...except that the beef & chicken was also part of the buffet that she ignored! Silly cat.

I truly do not care what she eats, as long as she does eat. Well, okay - I don't want her eating dry! I have no problem shooting her with a few drops each day. I do have a problem getting her to eat anything consistently. It's very frustrating.

Hmmmm she is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma isn't she? Does she eat alone or with everyone else? Hard to trouble shoot at a distance. Guess I lucked out with my brood they are all food driven. Cassanova was a pill to get off dry but once he tasted the wet he was a convert and now dances and sings for his meals. But he was so overdosed when I got him and because of it had a shed the size of Lake Erie, I took him off insulin for a week I think he converted just because of the ravenous hunger of diabetes towards the end of his detox. Autumn was just plain starving from not being treated so long she could have cared less what I set in front of her. And my foster Cali wouldn't eat worth a crap anything until I watered it down to soup but she had growths in the back of her mouth.

Well, she eats at the same time as everyone else, but she usually isn't in the same place as they are. I just take her plate to wherever she is. Maybe I'll try changing plates. Who knows what might work? What's really irksome is that she'll make me think she's going to eat something...then I come back, and she's gone and the plate looks mostly untouched. I think what she really wants may be dry food, given that she seems to prefer un-rehydrated dehydrated raw, but she's out of luck on that score!

About her going OTJ - that would be lovely, of course, but as Venita knows, we've never expected this girl to go OTJ. So that's not my goal. My goal is to get her eating well and to become properly regulated, whatever that takes.

Could she be a social eater? Autumn won't share her dish but she won't eat by herself. I have to bring her in with the others if she doesn't come in by herself. If I bring her, her dish she'll lick it and wander off. But if she is with the others she'll scarf it down and wait to see if some is going to leave anything in their dishes. Just trying to throw out ideas.

My thought is no, just because she really doesn't care to interact with other cats (which is why she needs a home as an only or with maybe one other cat), but I could try bringing her in to eat with the others. I mean, she's already walking away from her plate without eating, so having her do it again because of the other cats won't be any different! Silly thing.
