Today thus far:
AMPS 278
+2.75 153
+4 66 Fed a little 8% Merrick Granny's Pot Pie
+5.25 72 Fed a little more 8% and some LC Wellness Chicken
+7 108 Fed a little LC Wellness Turkey
+10 145 Fed a tiny portion of Wellness Turkey because I missed his +9 snack
PMPS 104 Fed LC Wellness Turkey for dinner (normal size portion) and Stu got a treat of a little tuna with water (we had tuna-bean salad). He took his Methim. pill in butter and a pill pocket.
+2.5 300 (1/2 hour after giving the hated Clavamox. Does Clavamox raise bg?
+4 243 bedtime snack of Wellness chicken and set out some in his automat for +9

Good Monday Morning Everyone,

I don't know what was wrong with Stu yesterday in the late afternoon and evening, but he wouldn't eat any dinner and tried repeatedly to hack up what I assume was a hairball (never materialized; just some little dollops of foam). He was out eating grass and spent some time eating something that grows under the rose bush, and that something (the rose bush itself?) always makes him sick, so perhaps that is what happened. In any event, I shot his full dose (1 unit) last night, but did not use the new Lantus cartridge, as I had planned to do. Tried to get him to eat something, with no success. Didn't give Clavamox or anything else. At +4.5 his bg was 94 (low for him for that time in the P.M. cycle), so I offered him some 8% Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie and he ate some. Also offered him his usual nighttime LC food, and put a little Karo on it. He ate a very little of this. At +5.75 his bg was up to 241, so we went to bed. Around 3:30 A.M. we heard him hacking, looked for the hairball, but found nothing. At this point Stu was quite active and was purring very loudly (never heard that before). We went btb and he joined us at some point. Later in the night we heard him hacking again, but were too zonked to do anything. He drank a good amount of water from his fountain last night, but didn't eat anything from his automat.
This morning he seems quite a bit better. He ate 2 small installments of Wellness chicken for breakfast and took his Methimazole pill (I have decided to give him 1.25mg bid--i.e., double the starting dose of 1.25mg sid; the vet wanted me to jump him up to 2.50mg bid,--5mg per day-- but I think that is too much of a jump at this point). I opened the new cartridge of Lantus (just received from Canada Drugs Online), and shot a skinny 1 unit because I don't think there is enough food in his stomach right now. On one of the paper bags he likes to sit on I found a little saliva that looked pinkish. I think he irritated his throat with all of the hacking last night.
Anyway, that's where we are now. Mr. Cat is resting after breakfast. Litterbox has seen both kinds of action. I will take Stu outside in a little while, but keep him away from the rose bush. (I checked my list of plants poisonous to cats and rose is not one of them, but the weeds that grow there might well be. I don't know what they are and there are lots of different kinds.)
Sorry to do such a detailed report. But I am really writing this down for my own benefit!!
Everyone have a good start to the week. We are supposed to have record-breaking high temperatures tomorrow and Wednesday!

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278

Stu - buddy... You sick, or something? I worry about you - do you need me to bring you some chicken soup? Or come and keep you company? maybe you just did too much at Ginger's Party last night. Be well, OK? ~~ Mannie

I hope Stu is better this morning - poor guy! I always worry so when they don't feel well and I can't tell why. Sounds like he is doing better this morning. I think you made the right choice on the med increase - though I certainly am no expert.

have a good one - though I'm not too sure about the record breaking temps! And we are sitting here in the low 50's - sunless too.

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153

awww poor stu .. it can't be any fun trying to get up a stubborn hairball .. I hope he feels better for you and eats today ... you hear that stu? You need to eat ok little buddy?

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153

poor Stu, Tray ate some weed this week too and threw up all over the stairs. Fun times.
I hope Stu feels better but the purrs seem to indicate so and his numbers are good.

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153

You could give him some vasoline or cooking oil or butter and it might help with a hairball, if that's what's going on. (It might help it slide out the other end!)

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153

How long has he been on the Clavamox Ella? I am hoping that this is just a reaction to that....remember when we talked about him vomiting on that. If it's not a hairball or those weeds and the vomiting stops, maybe you can just chalk it up to the nasty Clavamox. Keep us posted...I do hope his tummy will be settled now.
It's great to read detailed reports...I know that I like them. Please don't apologize for that...isn't it better than just writing the BGs and nothing else ~~ we are always thinking of you and Stu...it's nice to share what you two are going through...I mean that! Thank you for sharing with us...love to you both! and hugs too :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Stu:
Shadow and I are going over to Ginger's again...
if you can, get away from the heat there and join us...
we are just going to relax though...I am so tired
from all the dancing last night!
Love
Raja

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153, +4 66

I hope Mr. Stu gets that hairball up or does something that will help him feel better, Ella. Maybe it is the clavamox that is upsetting his tummy? Feel better, Stu, and btw, pretty nice numbers this morning

Aww, Stu, my buddy, sorry you are feeling a bit on the ill'in side. I hope you start to feel better soon...I don't like those upset tummy much myself. Chicken soup should help, I'm going to go over and help Mannie and Moonie made some up, special for you! Cya when the soup is done!............Spot

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153

Good morning Ella. I'm glad that Stu ate breffis. Upset tummies do not feel good.
What is it about rose bushes, anyway? One time I had started a slip that I stole from a cemetery, left it rooting in a bay window, and Checks ate the new leaves off it. grr_red Another time the leaves kept disappearing from a bush in Spring. One day I saw a woodchuck come out of the tall weeds, chomp on it, and dash back into weeds. They must taste good.
Have a wonderful, HOT day. We have the same weather you do.

Hey Stu, no eating the weeds under the rose bush. You wanna get a tummyache? I know I know, I like to do that too, when I'm outside. It worries my mama too.
your friend, Checkers

um, Stu....?
I don't want to alarm you or anything, but Donny told me that if you dive TOO deep, you'll find this:

 I don't know about you, but I think that's scary!

SURF, Stu! SURF!!!!

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153, +4 66

Stu, Your tummy still upset? I'll bring some catmint tea. Mom says peppermint tea is good for upset tummies, so catmint should be even better. Maybe we can go to Ginger's and hang when you feel better. -- Tess

Glad to hear her is eating a little now. I think you were right to be more conservative w/ the drugs. Just a slight increase in my mother's thyroid medication changed her from disoriented and having no balance to trucking around the neighborhood w/ just a cane again. Have a good day, and try to relax.

Re: 8/30 Stu AMPS 278, +2.75 153, +4 66, +5.25 72, +7 108

Hi Ella,
Its pretty common for cats w/ kidney issues to have upset tummies. Reflux/acidic tummies. One of the most common ways to help w/ this is pepcid. Some people like to start with slippery elm bark instead.. There are a few other antacids that could help as well. You can read about pepcid, upset tummies, etc on Helen,s crf website. Or just google feline crf and pepcid. (sorry- cant link from my phone)

It could be the a/b for sure. Pepcid might still be appropriate. Try stopping the pepcid when you are done with the a/b and see if the vomiting continues or is resolved.

A few other things that could help...try not to let him have an emty tummy too long. Also, raise food and water bowls so they are above tummy level...helps with reflux.

Im sorry he is not feeling well. Many hugs and positive vines sent your way.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the support and help. Stu has gotten progressively better all day. No hacking at all. Eating his food, and enjoying some time outside. I'll go back to giving the Clavamox tonight and see what effect that has. He only has to take it through tomorrow, in any event (although we have skipped about 24 hours). Mr. Cat is taking an interest in life again.
Later,
Ella

I'm glad to hear that Stu is feeling better now. I'm still going to send some healing vines just in case. I'm glad you're almost through with the Clavamox. BTW, did you try babyfood? If you get the chicken, beef, or turkey kind with no other fillers, they're low carb and easy on the tummy. And kitties usually love it. I always keep a jar in the cupboard just in case.

Ella, I'm glad to hear that Stu is feeling better. Very nice numbers today! I also like the detailed report, no need to apologize for it.

Re: 8/30 Stu PMPS 104

Hi Everyone,
Stu obviously enjoyed the chicken soup his pals made for him. He's feeling so much better: has his normal, enthusiastic appetite back and enjoyed Wellness Turkey for dinner. He also enjoyed a treat of a bit of tuna, you should have heard him meow when he saw it coming! (we were having Tuscan tuna-bean salad and he got some of the tuna before I put it in with the rest of the ingredients). The hated Clavamox is coming in 15 minutes, however! But he already took his Methimazole pill in butter + pill pocket. I shot a skinny 1 unit again this evening because Stu didn't eat as much over the course of the day as usual (also it's a new cartridge of Lantus).

Hypurrcat called this afternoon. They didn't get all of the urinalysis data they needed and were going to call Stu's vet. I hope this gets straightened out. I think they believe that his BUN is too high. In any event, they want a urine culture and I'm pretty sure Stu's vet didn't send out a sample for that, even though he obtained the urine by cystocentisis. So we wait some more.

Thanks again, everyone, for all your well wishes, tips, etc. etc. I don't know where we'd be without you all!

Ella & Stu

p.s. to Ele. Coincidence: I bought some of the turkey, chicken, beef baby foods today to have on hand!

Re: 8/30 Stu PMPS 104

I'm glad Stu was feeling better by the time I got to his condo. Good luck with the vets, how frustrating that must be to just keep waiting.

Re: 8/30 Stu PMPS 104

Just stopping in to say hello...glad Stu seems to be feeling better...hope you have a nice night Ella..
That PMPS is amazing!

Re: 8/30 Stu PMPS 104

Hi Ella-
Glad to read that Stu has gotten to feeling better as the day has gone on. It is upsetting when we can't tell what's wrong with them, just that something is off. I hope he keeps his appetite and finds some good stuff to chew on that won't make him sick.

Stu-
I'm sorry you weren't feeling well! I bet that chicken soup fixed you right up. If you need some company, just let me know, ok? I'll come visit and bring some catmomile tea for your tummy.
<3, Buzz

Re: 8/30 Stu PMPS 104

argghhhh on the vet and the urinalysis - how frustrating. I don't always handle waiting well - my hat goes off to you that do. I hope they (Hypurrcat) doesn't deny Stu as a candidate - my fingers are crossed. I wish you luck!

I am happy to read that Stu is feeling better. Mannie was elated - I hear he and Stu were off to Ginger's, along with the rest of the gang. so - that leaves you free to do whatever you want! Way cool!

Hi again, Everyone,
Just wanted to thank you all for helping us today. It was a good day of numbers until the test 1/2 hour after giving the Clavamox. That must have sent his bg up to pink?? Anyway, he's on the way back down at PMPS +4. Poor Stu's ears are bothering him today: too many pokes in the "good" ear, and I think he may have an insect bite in the other ear. He's "flicking" both ears and making it necessary to repeat the poke. I'm not sure the 104 at PMPS is correct: the blood sample was pretty small. I've had problems with these small samples registering correctly the last few days and have had to repeat tests (this morning at +4 my first test was 26!!! I immediately repeated it and got the 66). A few more things to worry about!
Good night to all,

Ella & Stu

Hi Guys: I'm so glad that Stu's tummy is feeling a bit better. I know how worried you can get when the kitty doesn't want to eat . It drives me crazy. I hope that everything gets sorted out soon with the vets and you find out good news. Hang in there.
