Good Monday Morning Everyone,
I don't know what was wrong with Stu yesterday in the late afternoon and evening, but he wouldn't eat any dinner and tried repeatedly to hack up what I assume was a hairball (never materialized; just some little dollops of foam). He was out eating grass and spent some time eating something that grows under the rose bush, and that something (the rose bush itself?) always makes him sick, so perhaps that is what happened. In any event, I shot his full dose (1 unit) last night, but did not use the new Lantus cartridge, as I had planned to do. Tried to get him to eat something, with no success. Didn't give Clavamox or anything else. At +4.5 his bg was 94 (low for him for that time in the P.M. cycle), so I offered him some 8% Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie and he ate some. Also offered him his usual nighttime LC food, and put a little Karo on it. He ate a very little of this. At +5.75 his bg was up to 241, so we went to bed. Around 3:30 A.M. we heard him hacking, looked for the hairball, but found nothing. At this point Stu was quite active and was purring very loudly (never heard that before). We went btb and he joined us at some point. Later in the night we heard him hacking again, but were too zonked to do anything. He drank a good amount of water from his fountain last night, but didn't eat anything from his automat.
This morning he seems quite a bit better. He ate 2 small installments of Wellness chicken for breakfast and took his Methimazole pill (I have decided to give him 1.25mg bid--i.e., double the starting dose of 1.25mg sid; the vet wanted me to jump him up to 2.50mg bid,--5mg per day-- but I think that is too much of a jump at this point). I opened the new cartridge of Lantus (just received from Canada Drugs Online), and shot a skinny 1 unit because I don't think there is enough food in his stomach right now. On one of the paper bags he likes to sit on I found a little saliva that looked pinkish. I think he irritated his throat with all of the hacking last night.
Anyway, that's where we are now. Mr. Cat is resting after breakfast. Litterbox has seen both kinds of action. I will take Stu outside in a little while, but keep him away from the rose bush. (I checked my list of plants poisonous to cats and rose is not one of them, but the weeds that grow there might well be. I don't know what they are and there are lots of different kinds.)
Sorry to do such a detailed report. But I am really writing this down for my own benefit!!
Everyone have a good start to the week. We are supposed to have record-breaking high temperatures tomorrow and Wednesday!
