Good Morning LLers
Hello old and new friends.

As you can see- Pedro and I have been booted out of the Falls.
Been having a bit if a time of it. The Cushing's is responding well to the trilostane but we are haveing a really tough ride with pancreatits. I have updated his profile.
So he was in remission from May 26, 2010- Aug 22. Had been on Levimer and we are again as of last night.
History: Cushing Dx 5/25/10 : Pituitary Tumor with large adrenal tumors
Current medications:
Since 6/10/10 for Cushings:Trilostane 10mg 2x/day
Chronic Pancreatitis, since July 9, 2010 : Pred 5mg 2x/day, 1/4 Cypro 1x/day , prolisec 1x/day, Bup(oral)15ml 2x/day.

Pedro had been seeing an Internal Med specialist due to his Cushings and the Trilostane. He has responded very well to it.
Howerver...
So his BG was staying low until the Pancreatitis in late June. 1st test came in at 20 and vet immediatly wanted a diet change to Iam's low residue. It is 28% carbs. She knew his diabetes history. I compromised and fed only 1/2 of his diet in the Iam's and felt sick about it the entire time. We went back for a re-check two weeks later as he was really not feeling well and the fPL came in at > 50. I was in tears talking to her about the high carbs in the diet. She basically said if I didn't go to 100% Iam's the Pancreatitis would kill him - not diabetes. So I have made the change and it's 100% Iam's canned low residue.
Next test 2 weeks later still >50 (my regular vet says it takes a while for this number to drop). Menawhile I watch his BG going up but IM and regular vet say "okay as long as below 280". So, I just came back from a week away and I knew he would be up to the over 280 BG. I took him to my regular vet last night for a 4 week follow up of complete blood work and fPl test. Told him what I'm reading for BG. He does a urine test... says he is really spilling glucose. So he had me re-start insulin at .5 U. Last night was his fisrt shot. I didn't do a pre ni ni test as he was at the end of his rope post vets.
I also know the pred is pushing the numbers and pancreatitis impacts it too.

So here we are. .5U is probably a bit low but vet wanted to start low and see where we go. Much better than when we first wanted to get started on Lev and he suggested 2.5U. He's trainable

sorry to hear you guys got booted out of the falls .. I don't have much advice in the way of what you are dealing with, so I will just say I hope it all gets figured out for you guys!

(((((Amy & Pedro)))))
I am so sorry to see you here....I wish we could have visited YOU two at the Falls instead of this way....
We have a condor ready for Pedro...hoping it will be short-term lease though....
You tow have been through an awful lot. :YMHUG:

you are in the best place...you know that...hoping that everyone will stop in and give you some ideas...
glad you started him on the .5u and well, you know the drill, right?
I don't know anything about pancreatitis but many here do...I am sure they will weigh in...

On a lighter note:
Party tonight Pedro...we are having the Green Corn Full Moon party at our place.
Everyone must wear green no matter what their BGs are, okay?
Some things never change...and we are still here, doing what we have always done...

Well Amy, you gotta DO what you gotta do...we are here for you....give scritches to Pedro from his pals...

Sorry to have to say welcome back.
We'll keep an eye on Pedro....

did you post on health re: food.... perhaps there is an alternative to the vet suggestion.

Sorry to see you back - but we are all here to offer support. I am sorry that Pedro has been through so much - poor guy. I am sure that there others that can offer suggestions, I just don't have any experience with what you are dealing with. I wish you and Pedro well.

'so sorry you have to taked this "vacation" from the falls. Pedro is a trooper, and you are both strong. You will be back at the Falls in no time.

Hello Amy. I'm sorry you and Pedro had to come back, even thought I didn't know you before. I'm sorry you are dealing with all this. You and Pedro sure have been through a lot.

oh amy. not happy to hear why you're back, but certainly glad to see you!
i like helene's suggestion to cross post on health... especially about food. i think there are some other ideas out there for you to consider. as far as diabetes goes, the insulin can be adjusted accordingly. get some nadir checks when you can. a little aggressive dosing will go a long way in pulling down pedro's numbers.
(((hugs)))

Welcome back -- but sorry you and Pedro are here!

You know how much I like to research a question like you're having with the IM vet. Well...... Here's one article that would suggest that a low residue diet for pancreatitis is not based on research. This article are from a presentation by Debra Zoran, DVM who has written a great deal about diet and feline diabetes. (This presentation was subsequently published in a vet journal.)

If it were me, I'd be asking your IM vet for the references re. the low residue diet so you could do some reading. (I also did a PubMed search and there's not all that much out there on diet and feline p'titis.)

Oh, Amy, sorry to see you on this side of the board. But I know you'll get Pedro back on track! This is the place to be, whichever side you're on!

P.S. Sienne, you rock.

I'm also sorry you're here. Not sorry to see you, of course, but sorry about the reason. I know you'll get Pedro's numbers back under control quickly, so at least that one worry will be out of the way.

Amy, I'm so sorry to see that you and Pedro are taking a vacation from the falls. Hopefully it will be a small vacation. I don't have ANY experience with what you guys are going through, so I really can't help. I can , however, give you support. I'll be rooting for you guys to get back to the falls quickly...it can be done, just look at Spot!!!

(((Amy)))

pooh, Pedro got a ticket back here...but you know you are both always welcomed here.
And do post in health too for food thoughts.

(((((big hugs to you both))))

Sorry you are back here, but if you need to be here, you are always welcome--Pedro, we are going to help you get green again!--Hugs from us!

Hi Amy & Pedro, Sorry to see that you're back from the Falls and hope it will be only a short interlude. But Pedro is in his other "home" and all the kitties here want Pedro to know that he is with his old friends and that they care about him. Please send him to the Full Green Corn Moon party tonight. He'll have a good time. We hope that you will find a solution to the food problem.

Ella & Stu
