8/23 Sebastian AMPS 238 +2 252 +3 270 +6 257 +9 257 PMPS 249 +2 301

Seems to have a pretty small appetite this morning. Hoping that's a good sign that he's going to continue to bring the numbers down.

Glad to hear Sebastian is feeling better this morning! His AMPS is a better looking number today. Let's hope he continues to work this dose and gets back down to the beaches - terrific day for a nice little visit to the lagoon :)

Has he ever had a dental?
Yes, it was about a year ago they did x-rays and found a couple of his teeth were spiderwebbed so they did an extraction and cleaning. He's actually do for another cleaning here, but we just did his physical a couple weeks ago and the vet didn't see any inflamation around the gum line like last time

There could be something brewing under the gums.
Was last years dental done by a veterinary dental specialist or the vet?

252@+2. Not too big of a food spike, seems we might go even lower today. 6.5u might be doing the trick and hopefully we can get a smooth drop and not bounce too much. I'll try to strategically feed him today to smooth out the drop, his normal food, not anything HC, just enough to hopefully avoid another bounce. If can just barely kiss 200 I think that will be ideal.

Back from the vet. Didn't find anything abnormal in the physical. Said it looked like there might be some gingivitis and inflamation of the gums so we scheduled the teeth cleaning. Unfortunately the next opening isn't until Sep 23rd, so we'll have to power through until then. I do have a cat toothbrush kit that I'll give a try. His mouth is the one thing he doesn't really like me messing with so that might be a bit of a challenge but we'll see what we can do.

The other thing she suggested was switching the type of B-12 we're using. We're currently using the...cyanocobalim or something like that. Which she said is a cyanide derivative and can possibly have some long term effects. I don't think we've been using it long enough for that but figured we'll switch to the other type anyways.

Did you see on other post Sandy can help with R dosing.
Going to go check it out now

Oh and I asked about this and they said the tech specialists do the cleaning supervised by the vet for anesthesia
Since kitties don’t sit still and ‘open wide and say ahhh’ the only way to truly evaluate the state of his teeth and gums is by examining and taking radiographs while kitty is under anesthesia.

If it were my cat I would locate a veterinary dental specialist and take him there.

Have a look at BKs ss.
First dental was early Dec 2008. As soon as he finished the ABs it was fasten your seatbelts time.
The reductions came fast and furious and by the end of February he was down from 13u to 3u. Around April BGs started creeping up and so did the dose. I took him back to the dentist and he had another cleaning along with several more extractions the end of May 2009. A little under 5 months later he went to the falls , where he remained the rest of his life (6.5 years).

That's what they did. When I brought him in for the cleaning it was with a tentative possibility of extraction. So they put him under, took the x-rays/radiographs, did the cleaning, saw the spiderwebbing in two of the teeth and did the extraction.

I'll double check to make sure that's the plan this time also.

Yup just called them, it'll be the same as last time where they'll do x-rays also and see if we need to do any extractions. Never counted a cats teeth, not sure how many he can afford to lose!

Justin, I have two civvies with several missing teeth, but their gums are now healthy. They eat quite well, and you'd never know they were missing several teeth.

BK had a lump removed October of 2008 which was thankfully benign. While he was under his vet took a opportunity to get a good look inside his mouth and easily removed the decaying remains of a broken molar. That started the ball rolling - I immediately stopped R.
His mouth however was way beyond what she felt she could safely handle so she recommended the specialist. After his first 2 dentals with the specialist he probably had 8 or 9 extractions total. BKs regular vet felt comfortable doing his dentals after that. He had an extraction or two with each subsequent yearly dental and it got to a point where she removed the few that remained. No more dentals and no more worries about gingivitis or decay throwing him out of remission. BK was toothless the last several years of his life and had no problem eating.

PMPS 249, 11lbs 15.5oz, B-0HB 1.0. BG actually looks like it was fairly flat today. blood ketones not great but acceptable. Good news it looks like all the food he devoured over the past two days didn't go to waste and he's back at 12lbs. About another 1/2 lb or so and he'll be back to normal.

And that's good to hear about all the no-teeth stuff. My wife pretty much confirmed the same, most of the cats and dogs her and her mom have had over the years that got to old age wound up getting all their teeth out and didn't miss a beat. So we'll see what the next few cleanings look like for Sebastian. I'm going to start making an effort to try and clean them periodically on my own.

301@+2. Boo.

I know you are in FL... don’t know how far away you are from Pinellas Co.- Dr. peak is excellent.
Thanks, I'll check it out in the morning. We're Orlando so Pinellas is pretty far. I'll see what's local though, hopefully we can find someone who can get us in sooner.
