Wow, I just updated the spreadsheet and Johnny had a lot of tests yesterday. Brian was the alarm-setting tester hero last night. We were so nervous he was going to dive further. It's the first time he's had two shots in one day, plus he had some low numbers and he's been so unpredictable lately. I'm a little embarrassed at the number of tests...Johnny is an easy-going, purr-through-test kind of guy, luckily.

I'm going to call the vet this afternoon to ask for a prescription for a pen. If she's not in today and others think new insulin is the way to go, we may just get another vial (still have 1 refill). I just don't feel like arguing with the vet or teaching her anything today.

In Johnny's world, all is fine. All Ps are in place and all he wanted to do last night was play, play, play! He loves jumping up the wall after soft balls or balled up paper. He's very acrobatic and fun to watch. And then there's Chair Ball. He sits on the chair and you toss him a toy and WHACK! he hits it back straight out of the air, sometimes right back to me, and I even mix up how/where I throw it. And sometimes he catches it in the air with both paws. I'm not kidding!

Oh Janice...don't be embarrassed by the number of tests you did last night...you will get used to it and get better as the time goes by with a better amount of tests... :-|
Oh, wait a minute...
Did you think you tested too much?

I think you did a great job last night! But then again, I hate white boxes in the SS!!
What a beautiful night he had!

I loved your report ...very very good. And it sounds so funny to hear how he plays with the ball. What a riot! And good luck with the vet phone call...let us know what happens....

Re: 8/17 Johnny AMPS 191 +3(130)

LOL, Pat! You are one funny lady. At first, I was reading and thinking "Whaaat? I will get better??" LOL Too funny. Thanks for the laugh. Glad you approve of the SS. I don't want to get labeled as a helicopter cat mom.

Re: 8/17 Johnny AMPS 191 +3(130)

I just left a message for the vet!! nailbite_smile

Why am I nervous?
* I haven't talked with her since I e-mailed her Johnny's spreadsheet after a week on insulin. (May 20)
* She doesn't know we've been decreasing on our own. (Does she still think he needs two units??)
* I don't like confrontation of any sort. I don't think she'll be anything but nice, but I just want her to say yes and to pick up the prescription anytime.

Re: 8/17 Johnny AMPS 191 +3(130)

I hate confrontation too...I am going to hope for one better...the vet tech or someone else will call and tell you to pick it right up! Yeah, no need to speak to the vet...just gimme my script please!

Re: 8/17 Johnny AMPS 191 +3(130)

good luck, Janice. I don't know why it should be so hard to get insulin. They NEED their insulin, why make it a battle? Oh well, I'm sure you'll succeed.

It looks like right now, you should plan to go back to shooting Johnny BID. He's not getting as much duration as he used to. Whether it's because of the insulin or the cat, who knows, but he needs what he needs. When you get the new insulin, I think the best plan is to shoot that on a cycle when you'll be home to monitor, just in case it *is* toasty insulin giving us these results.

Re: 8/17 Johnny PM 181 - Shot Advice needed

No call back from the vet yet. Decided to just refill the vial and pay a little extra cash and save a little in the sanity department. Feeling much better now that we have new juice in the fridge.

We have been shooting numbers above 180 and with Libby's advice today, it looks like we might be back on BID for a bit. Tonight, Johnny came in at a hair-raising (because we were actually hoping for yellow to feel confident) 181 at +11.5. I think we shoot it either way, but would like to try the new insulin and get him back on track if that was the issue. The old insulin, compared to the new insulin, definitely looks a tiny bit different, but still clear. The new stuff is more clear though, if that makes any sense.

Are we crazy to shoot the new insulin tonight? We'll be around to monitor, but Brian will also be around tomorrow. We have just about three weeks until he starts full-time classes and want to make the most of his being so available now. I know it's a decision we have to make, but I thought I'd throw it out there just to be "drama." Well, actually, just because I hate making decisions!

Shot will be in about 20 minutes at 8 CT.

Re: 8/17 Johnny PM 181 - Shot Advice needed

if you're up to monitoring tonight, then I say go for it! You'll definitely want to check, though. Let's hope the new juice does the trick! I would LOVE for you to waste most of this vial because Johnny doesn't need it anymore.

Re: 8/17 Johnny PM 181 - Shot Advice needed

Thanks, Libby. We're going to go for it! It just doesn't seem right to give him the old stuff when we have fresh. We'll monitor closely. Fingers and paws crossed that this is what Johny needed to get back to business.

Re: 8/17 Johnny PMPS 181 +2(195)

Glad to hear you went to get the new vial. Wouldn't it be so much easier if Lantus didn't require a prescription? I hope it is just what Johnny needs!

Re: 8/17 Johnny PMPS 181 +2(195)

81 at +3! Fed some LC. Johnny is playing like a kitty in a catnip store. But also catching some downtime and sleeping. Nothing like HC carb night, but good to see. I hope Mr. Pancreas appreciates the fresh insulin and rewards us with a surfing kitty.

64 at +4. We just gave him some FF Tuna Feast flaked (7%), which he gobbled up. Just hope we can get this boy surfing tonight!
