Happy weekend everyone!

Currently, Binx seems to be doing well if we look at the 5 P's. I went to a local vet yesterday (as mine's a bit far and I'm currently without car) to get a urinalysis and culture done, to rule out infection. I was able to speak to the vet there about Binx, but it's so difficult with his complicated history. Ultimately, I asked for a phosphorus binder to add to his food and some sub-q fluids to take home and administer (they've suggested 100ml every other day). Binx had a cardiac ultrasound last year which determined his Grade 2 murmur is physiological, but I'm aware this can change. The vet felt comfortable with me giving him the sub-q and honestly, I just want to try this week, as I'm going to recheck his values in a weeks time to see if anything has tipped the scale for his kidneys (and might throw in the proBNP test Wendy mentioned).

We gave him his first at home sub-q this morning and it was terrifying. Luckily, I had a friend come help me and thank goodness. It took a few attempts, which broke my heart... especially when the first time I got a fur shot and Binx had a little yelp when the needle went in :( We were successful in the end, but I was near ready to give up.

Lastly, his BG has finally returned to normal and we hit a good couple cycles yesterday. I think he might spike a bit today from last night's green and also all the food I gave him to distract during fluids. I'll take it.

You’re such a great mama to Binx! He’s so lucky to have you.
Giving fluid fluids for the first time is certainly harrowing and not for the faint at heart.
I’m so glad you had some help BrianaπŸ«‚

Hoping that will really help Binx, and glad you got the binder as well to help his phosphorus level levels πŸ’–

Keep us posted on the urine test and what the results are.
Very glad to hear his 5 ps are good 😊

Ivy and I send lots of healing vines and thoughts your way. Lots of love from us to you and Binx πŸ’–πŸ’žπŸ’–πŸ’žπŸ«‚πŸ™πŸ€πŸƒπŸ€πŸƒπŸ€πŸƒπŸ€πŸƒ

Thanks so much for the kind words and thoughts, Staci πŸ«‚ I know you're dealing with a lot yourself right now, so it's truly incredible to have you checking in on Binx and me. We're so lucky to have such amazing support.

And you're absolutely right - not for the faint of heart! But we do it for our babies πŸ’•

Lots of love back to you and Ivy πŸ’•πŸ«‚

Forgive me if you've already heard this, but are you using the Terumo needles?? Much better than the harpoons the vets dispense.

Give Binx some special lovin' from all of us, too. You're such a good mommy to him!!
Thanks, Mary πŸ€—πŸ’• He's getting so much TLC these days!!

And yes, just checked - they gave me the 20G Terumo needles. I asked for the easiest/smallest they could give, glad it's known as the better option.

I didn't find fluids too hard to give once I figured out what worked for Leroy's boney body. I still had days when the needle would poke out of what little tent I get and fluid would dribble out so I'd have to re-poke elsewhere. And I stabbed my thumb with a harpoon once πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« At first Leroy wouldn't hold still unless he was eating dinner.Later as his health declined and he wasn't eating, he'd just meatloaf and let me poke him.

There's an IV harness thing that is supposed to hold the needle in place so you don't have to hold it and the cat is free to move around.

I have to look at this video when it's been a while since I've done fluids. How to Give Subcutaneous Fluids (Video). Definitely not for the faint of heart! Fluids days went through a lot of freeze dried chicken pieces.

Looking at the 5 P's is very important.

Thank you both for this info πŸ«‚

Squeem, ouch on that thumb poke! Leroy was so lucky to have you push through with those big harpoon needles. I'm sure the fluids helped a lot πŸ«‚

im so so sorry Briana.. πŸ’” meant to post on your previous but it got away from me; it wouldn't post and I had been out I think.. happy to hear tho he's doing and acting ok. I heard that's what matters.. less about what things look like on paper, more how they're doing, feeling, and acting.. ❀️‍πŸ”₯β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸ’”..

Thanks, Yasmin πŸ–€ hope you're doing okay, I know you've been through so much yourself.

I think you are right now, look at the cat and not the disease.
