8/14 Callie PMPS 187, +2 208, +4 302

267 @ +2 so a bit of a drop from AMPS but seems quite similar to last cycle. We'll take a +4 or +5 just to be sure that nothing unexpected is happening but I'm guessing it is going to be a mostly yellow cycle.

+4 103 @tiffmaxee - you were right, she's definitely breaking the bounce! Callie just had a couple of Young Again kernels as a post-test treat and then had some of her reg LC wet food. Should I give her a teaspoon of the MC (13%) as well? Also, should we test every 30 mins or can we wait an hour?

At some point, hopefully I will actually understand all of this... I still don't really get the difference between the start of this cycle and the start of last cycle (pre shot numbers to + 2 numbers seem very similar to me, although obviously the +4 numbers don't...)

Great job Jessica getting Callie up to safer numbers. Hopefully she will continue to rise throughout the day like she did on 8/10. Wishing you both a safe and happy day. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you Adrienne! Looks like we are headed up so hopefully Callie will stay safe. It was pretty scary for a minute there not really knowing how far or fast her BG would fall. Just have to get more used to this I think.

Hi Jessica, I'm sorry no one saw this earlier! What did you feed her? Just HC or honey as well?
Hi Bhooma, I fed HC (one teaspoon at two diff times.) No honey. Also a few more kernels of Young Again (dry but low carb.) Her +6 was 147 just now. I'm sure I messed up by giving her too much HC but I really wasn't sure what to do when it wasn't going up from the 50s.

Editing to note: DURING +5 HOUR WE FED: 2 teaspoons (at two diff times) of Callie's old wet food: HC Hills z/d for Skin/Food Sensitivities

You are right, the two cycles looked similar at +2. Some action, but till +4 today you couldn't really tell that she was picking up momentum.

In hindsight, it seems like some MC at +4 was a good idea, but honestly, I'd have fed LC as well since it was later in the cycle. The 56 at +5 proved, without doubt, that she needed higher carbs. HC or MC. What to feed is all trial and error till you know your cat - and that knowledge comes only after you've experienced several such cycles and seen how she reacts to carbs.

One thing you want to keep in mind for future cycles is that food takes 20 mins to affect the BG. Testing sooner than that might not give you a correct picture of what the last meal has done.

Once she is safely up, like she is now, you want to continue to test every hour to ensure that she stays up 2 hours after the last meal. Sometimes they dip again after the carbs have worn off.

I am sorry again, that no one was around. It must have been pretty scary. You did great! :-)

We cross posted. All of us have been guilty of throwing a whole lot of carbs at a low number at some point or the other :) We live and learn!

Note down what you fed when she was low in the comments - so the next time you can reference it and decide whether she needs more less carbs. Each such cycle gives you valuable information on how she reacts to carbs at different points in the cycle. Bounce breaking cycles have greater momentum and would need more carbs to slow them down. Similarly, you need higher carbs earlier in the cycle when the insulin action is stronger than later.

Next time you could try MC and see if that is enough to keep her going mid-cycle. Like I said, a lot of it is trial and error and differs with each cat and even each cycle.

Thank you. I do know that about 20 mins and food/ BG but in the moment, I think I just wanted to DO something. I know I will get better at this ... We will test again at +7 etc. and I will make a note in the SS about what I fed.

Is Callie unusually bouncy (down AND up) or is this what you would expect a few weeks in? I have been trying to look at other cats' spreadsheets to try to understand better but they all just seem so different to me (hence the "ECID" I guess....)

Yes you will! You are doing great for someone who is less than a month into this! :bighug:

Yup. ECID. Having said that, it's too soon to say she's unsually bouncy. She is bouncing, but a lot of newly diagnosed cats do. Give her a few more weeks and let's see whether she settles down :)

Thanks, as always (for the guidance and the pep talk!) I know it is late there. Hope you are able to get some good rest. :bighug:

Great cycle for Callie and great job for Jessica :bighug: i think Bhooma summary today was exceptionally clear and comprehensive, i recommend you reread it several times to sunk in all the valuable information :) i would emphasize the food notes, very important to know how much you fed previously and how did she react in any specific situation.

if you want to feel better about Callie, check Chico’s SS in the beginning, he was as bouncy as you would expect. Give it some time before becoming worrying :bighug:

i look forward to her PMPS ;)

Thanks, Marina. 100% agree about Bhooma's message. I copied it into the notes I have been keeping on fd and I updated Callie's SS with how much we fed and when so I can learn from it. And thanks for your note about Chico's SS/ early bouncing. Definitely good to know that Callie is not alone with her wacky (to me) numbers. And also gives us so much hope knowing how incredibly far Chico has come with your hard work and diligence :bighug:

Will post again after PMPS. I am interested to see if she goes way up now or not.

+4 302. And bounce we go?! :( Seems like Callie is "safely" in higher numbers so we are going to call it a night. Back tomorrow with AMPS...

Hi Jessica, you are doing great and please ask all the questions you need to, that’s why we are all here. This is your thread/condo, your information is way up at the top from this morning. Sometimes you won’t get an answer right away but usually someone will get back to you ASAP. If it’s an emergency, be sure to put the 911 from the drop down menu next to the - date - Callie- AMPS …. At the very top. Get some rest you need every bit of it. Take advantage of those safe numbers. If I can be of more help for general questions, send me a message in the am. I’m about to do Dolly’s last test of the day, I hope, and get some sleep myself. :bighug::bighug:

Thanks so much, Adrienne! We all slept great last night (Callie included :) ) Hope Dolly is doing well and that you were able to get some rest too. I'm about to start a new thread for today.
