I want to thank everyone for visiting Champ's condo over the last couple of days and expressing your concern and giving us so much support. It's meant the world to me. The helpless feeling you have when you can't get your beloved pet to eat is just awful!! There was actually one point where I was sitting on the kitchen floor surrounding by 7 or 8 different cat foods, tuna fish, chicken breast, crying because I couldn't get him to even try just one little taste. He's still not 100%, but I have the famotidine and, if necessary, the mirtazapine...and I'm not afraid to use them!!! The vet also gave me a large syringe in case it's necessary to syringe some food into him. Last night, Champ dropped down to 36 and, since he had already eaten two meals, he just wasn't interested in eating anything. He wouldn't even lick up some gravy. I just syringed some gravy into him and he had the most beautiful green surf last night!!! I never had to give him any more gravy after that one syringe feeding!!

This morning, even though I gave Champ his famotidine (did he really swallow it or will I find it somewhere on the floor later), he just wasn't interested in eating. I'm not bothering with pill pockets because he's not interested enough in eating to make those useful. He licked all the sauce off some FF Turkey Florentine so at least that's in him. I'll probably have to syringe some pureed food into him later this morning if I can't convince him he can eat on his own. He did both numbers in the LB and everything looked perfectly normal so at least I know he's not clogged up.

I hope to visit condos later this morning/early afternoon. I only got about two hours of sleep last night because I got so behind on my work yesterday with trying to get Champ to eat yesterday morning and then the unplanned vet visit.

I sure hope everyone has a great day!!! You're true friends and I appreciate every single one of you!!!

Re: 8/11 Champ AMPS 110

Hi guys . . I'm sorry to hear champ is still not 100% .. but at least you have some meds that you can use if need be, and that he is using the LB ok .. come on now champ, you need to eat your fuds up ok? Theres a party in the making and you need to be able to dance the night away!

Re: 8/11 Champ AMPS 110

Hey Patty - just a quick note, since I'm at work. When Trix and Frankie had the stomach bug and therefore pill pockets wouldn't work, I crushed up the pepcid, added a teeny bit of water, and syringed it in. It tastes nasty, but at least I knew they got it in them, rather than trying to pill them and hope it went down. I've also heard there's a version that can be injected, too.

C'mon Champ...time to feel better!

Back to work...

Re: 8/11 Champ AMPS 110

Well hopefully Champers is on the mend. Cmon Champ eat!!!!

Very nice numbers for him as well.

Re: 8/11 Champ AMPS 110, +1.5 118, +3 90

Thank goodness Champ is doing such a nice slow descent since he has no food on board. I'm going to syringe feed him some Wellness (since it's higher in calories) in a little bit. I hate to wake him for that, but I gotta do what I gotta do!!

Re: 8/11 Champ AMPS 110, +1.5 118, +3 90

Congratulations on the dose crease, but I hope Champ decides to go back to eating. The Wellness Turkey seems a lot softer than the other varities and may work better in the syringe.

How are you giving the pill? Are you sure it went in? Are you using a pill gun? It helps to get the pill in far enough and is a lot easier.

This won't help right now, but it is a great pet piller. You can load it w/ water to help wash the pill down.

What a day yesterday and last evening! The new vet sounds really good. My vet gave me injectable famotidine when Zoe wouldn't eat...what a blessing that turned out to be. Hope he starts eating for you...soon. Hang in, you are doing great.

Re: 8/11 Champ AMPS 110, +1.5 118, +3 90, +7 69

I hope Champ starts eating on his own. At least the Wellness is soft and mushy with water added. Sending some positive vines for Champ and you.

Been thinking about you today and wanted to check on you right when we got back. Nice numbers for Champ today Patty!! So sorry he is not eating. Healing vines and warm thoughts from us!!

Re: 8/11 Champ +9 73, +11.5 71, PMPS 79,

Seriously, someone needs to make a video on how to syringe feed a cat who doesn't want you to. I watched the one that was recently put in someone's condo (Trixie maybe?). I think her name was Mary and her cat's name was something like Toop. Anyway, Champ was having none of that. Before I tried to feed him, I gave him his famotidine. I've never been so frustrated in my entire life. Then with the debaucle of trying to syringe feed him on top of that...well....I ended up having a screaming, crying tantrum!! Not proud of that, but it's the truth. I threw his damn cubes across the room, kicked the furniture, and SCREAMED at Champ, calling him all sorts of names. My daughter tried to call in the middle of all this and I proceeded to tell her that I was DONE with him, I was going to have him put down because the way he was going he was going to die anyway. Hung up the phone, realized what I had said, calmed down, picked up the cat, gave him his mirtazapine (which he spit out three times), brushed him for a little bit to show him I really DID love him, and then got out some FF beef, just his plain ol' food he used to eat with justo. There's no way the mirtazapine had a chance to start working, but he ate all the food I gave him. Maybe all this time he just wanted his old food back...who knows. I went ahead and gave him his shot, even though his number's low, and I'll just have to keep an eye on him and try to get him to eat a little bit at a time so he doesn't drop too low. I'll syringe feed some gravy if I have to like I did a couple nights ago. I tell ya...this has been the most stressful day in a long time. I think the tantrum helped me clear out all the stress that had built up though, so while I'm embarrassed I acted like a five-year-old, it may have actually helped!!

Patty we all have days like that! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: That's a big part of why we are here, it's a place to vent!

I hope Champ is eating this morning? We've been looking for you!

OMG Patty! I haven't been able to be around much this last week. Champ is usually Steady Eddie -- we pretty much know what to expect from him. I can't believe this all happened! OMG I'm so sorry to hear about this!

Oh Champ, stop being a typical cat. Really, it's not nice to push your bean to the edge especially after all she has done for you! Just friggin' eat!!!!

:YMHUG:

so glad he ate something. perhaps it will perk him up! cats - ya love em and ya wanna kill em sometimes, all at the same moment.

go ahead and have a tantrum. we won't call the Tantrum Police on you! :-D although i did think i heard something really loud coming from the south a little while ago! ;-)

You deserve a tantrum! Champ loves you and he will forgive you. Remember, all of this frustration is totally worth it when he looks at you with those big kitty eyes that melt your heart. :-D I am so happy to see that he ate today!
