8/11 & 8/12 Jupiter -- Oncologist appt today!!! UPDATE

Jupiter didnt eat anything at all yesterday morning.... so I skipped the AM antibiotic... he did eat last night so I did give PM dose of ABs.

Called vet yesterday about the travel to oncologist. They prescribed alprazolam. I am supposed to give him 1/2 tab 2 hours before leaving - and another tab 8 hours later if needed.

They said he can take this along with his prozac.


The past 2 or 3 days there has been what looks to be a stray kitty outside (across the street from our apartment). I walked over to try to give him a can of food and he ran... but he came back later to eat it. I am not sure if he is a stray, or maybe he has an owner - and is an outdoor cat... but he doesnt look too well. He looks real skinny and his fur doesnt look too good either. We have a few cans of food here that Jupiter and civies dont like, and wont eat... so I will give him those... earlier I walked over to give him a second can of food and he ran away... he ate about 2/3 of the first can and it was pushed down in there. I put the other can there and a few minutes later he came back to eat. Hes been sitting there eating ever since... Out of both cans... hes been eating for more then 30 mins. (And when I say "him" I am not sure if it is a boy or girl kitty)... Poor kitty... Glad I had a few extra cans of food here that my cats dont like...

Glad to hear you called your new vet and he gave you something for the trip...Hope it helps Jupe not stress too much on that long ride! You really do seem to have found a wonderful and caring vet! Great for both you and Jupe!

Will be saying an extra prayer for the appointment tomorrow and waiting to hear the news. You know we're all hoping for the best!!

You're such a good mommabean to Jupiter....of course you'd care about a little stray that looks hungry..if he/she is in such bad shape, sounds like maybe he/she is a stray or a "dumpee" :evil:

I know I'm a big believer in our cats "choosing" us..maybe this little kitty is considering adopting you

Good luck on the big vetty trip tomorrow. We'll all be thinking of you. As a suggestion, if you plan to give Jupiter some alprazolam (Xanax), you might want to try him on it today before you go. Ask your vet first of course. My civie Theo was prescribed some to use as a muscle relaxant for his FLUTD and I stopped it after a couple of doses. It made him very anxious and wobbly on his feet. There are side effects, but not in all cats.

So good of you to feed the neighbourhood kitty.

good luck with the vet appointment tomorrow. My cats are not good travelers at all, so I can sympathize.

Unfortunately, I cant take in any kitties right now. :sad: I am going to do my best to feed it as often as I can...

Is it bad to feed too much food?

I am going to try to find out if it has a home or owner in the next few days... Its really shy and runs everytime we get close.

That's so kind of you to feed that kitty. I can't imagine that the cat wasn't happy to have a good meal!!

Be aware that the alprazolam (Xanax) may make Jupe hungry!!

Your new vet really is a gem. Hugs to the whole practice from us.

Such a good kitty mommy even to the strays, just leave water for the poor little one, hope he has a family somewhere.

Even if you can't feed the stray kitty all the time, or take him in, it's nice to set out some food when you have extra.

you might want to find a little plastic container instead of leaving a can out for the stray.... sometimes the can edges can be sharp and cut there little tongues...
a starving kitty will sometimes try to lick it clean.

I had a cat like that who found us... we fed it for several years and got it used to people... and I finally took him to the local shelter and he was adopted within a week.

thank you all so much. wont be posting in the morning. we will be leaving here at 7:30 and his appt is at 9:45. hoping to wake up around 5:30... (in 4 hour 15 min) to give xanax.

going to try to post an update from my phone after appt before tests

i slept through my alarm for 30 mins so jupiter didnt get xanax til 6am. its 7:35 am now and we are getting ready to leave will post later from my phone to update

and I don't think you can overfeed a stray cat! But once you start feeding, you may need to help find it a home or continue to care for it, by feeding and even finding a shelter for him/her.

Good luck and paws crossed for a good outcome! So good of you to care for the stray kitty! There may be a rescue group near you that can help it.

They are done doing the tests. We are waiting for the vet to come talk to us about the results. I am so nervous and worried. Praying for good news

Wanted to let everyone know we are home.

We got both good news and bad news.

The good news is - the cancer has not spread. I was soooooo happy to hear this.

The bad news is - she said with the small margins there could still be cancerous cells in his foot. She said the first step is getting the wound to heal - but she said it may not heal correctly if there are still bad cells in it and may need wound therapy. The next step would be radiation treatment. She said she thinks its very necessary to have the radiation treatment as soon as the wound heals, to kill any remaining cancerous tissue, and help eliminate the chance of it ever coming back. Unfortunately we are not able to afford this radiation treatment.

I will post a more thorough update shortly

I'm so glad the cancer has not spread. Still sending prayers to you. Just take it one step at a time and focus on getting his foot to heal.
 
Oh Jamie!! You must be so relieved that at least it's not spread any!! That was the thing we all feared the most! Hopefully Jupe will leave his wound alone to heal enough so they can get the radiation treatment started sooner rather than later....They are doing miraculous stuff these days!!

Oh, I am so happy to hear it hasn't spread. Paws crossed there isn't anything in the margins, but that is the lesser of the issues. How did Jupe do on his big road trip today?

Hi Jamie, had to stop in and check on Jupe so glad to hear that it looks promising. One thing at at time dear maybe we can find a way for a auction of sorts to help out when the time comes, lets get that little foot healed first. Wow first time since Feb I havent turned computer on glad my phone works for a few before freezing up. Sending healing vines check in tmro.

I am praying that all bad cells are gone and there is no need for radiation.
