Good morning everyone! So I haven't been able to get a reading on Chigga's Nadir and I know I need to unfortunately during the day I am at work and at night it would be at 1:30 in the morning - but I'm guess I'm just going to have to set an alarm to check it at 1:30 am - or is it possible to wait for Saturday since I will be doing a full curve at that point? I still have her on 1 unit and she's eating well but in the past day I noticed she drank a little more water but not as much as she did before the insulin and she used the box one more time than she had in the past 3 days - maybe I'm just being paranoid.

So can I keep her on 1 unit until I do the curve on Saturday or should I try to get her Nadir reading tonight by setting my alarm to get up at 1:30 and 2:30am?

Still Stressed

Erica

Good morning - I haven't been here long enough to feel confident in giving you an answer, but I just wanted to say hi and try not to stress, even tho I know it's hard not to. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you the answers. Have a great day!

Hi Erica!

Hold tight. Someone with dosing advice should be along shortly.

That's great that you'll be doing a curve this weekend! Regarding the litter box, I wouldn't be too worried. Adjusting dosing as needed will take care of those side effects.

I'd put the question mark icon next to your subject to attract more eyes. Try and relax. You're really doing great and the process will get more comfortable soon.

Hi Erica

from your SS:

an hour before AMPS fed her 30 cal of trader joes tuna for cats
because she was pawing my face because she was hungry, AMPS then 312 an hour later (645am)
- not sure what it would have been without the food an hour earlier.

With Lantus, we encourage no food in the 2 hours before both preshot. If you give in - you may see a higher than usual preshot number - food spike.
A treat works pretty good, a low carb treat that is.

Might of been a little yellow for AMPS - Chigga is pretty close there.., but now you know!

We actually do see some members setting alarms for a overnite check - doesn't mean is mandatory - but keep an eye on your sleep too, especially if you have to work in the morning.

So with that - you can try this:

evening spotchecks: +3 (onset) and a before bedtime check

The weekend is coming up - that would be a good time to do a curve.
Plus you got friday nite - maybe set your alarm late friday nite?

Might also be a good idea to aim for a dose increase around the weekend when you'll be around to monitor.
If Chigga need more juice now, others will advise on that.

Does that help?

Can you breath?

Thank you Ronnie, that does help. And thank you to everyone - I do feel better but I'm sure I'll feel much better once I can check her curve so I know what the insulin is doing and when. I fed her the little bit of food an hour before her AMPS so I bet she would have been in the yellow, but that's okay, I'll do it right next time.

Also, I've been pricking her ear - is that the best place to get blood? I'm finally able to get it in 2 tries now, I'm hoping I will soon be a pro and get it in one so I don't feel like I'm torturing her.

It does get easier to test. Keep at it, give it a try tonight after PMPS.Try not to be stressed and nervous, she will sense that and fight you cat(2)_steam
Between tonight and the weekend, hopefully we'll have a better idea of what her number's are like in the evening.

Determining the dosage is much easier then!

Offer her a treat if you have any around.
Or pick up some low carb treats at any pet store. Freeze dried ones seem to be a hit around here.
Treat association and testing works wonders, doesn't always happen right away, so keep at it.
