7/9 Copernicus AMPS 393 +3=373 +8=464!

Looks like a bounce from the fast drop last night, and/or if he went lower than that +2, which he probably did. This too will pass.

I'm going to have some blood work done tomorrow just to rule out pancreatitis or dehydration. I just don't like how weak he's been the last couple days.

What causes bounces and fast drops? Sorry if I missed this response, but I am trying to understand how to prevent this? It makes him feel crappy and seems counterproductive to what I am trying to accomplish.

Bounces are caused two things, first is by going lower than their body is used to. Cats can bounce from yellows if their body is used to above 300's. The only way to get over this type of bouncing is to get them to a dose where they see normal numbers most of the time. There will be some short term bouncing but it will level out over time. You do have to be patient. It took Neko a year to stop bouncing to reds.
The second type of bounce is from fast drops. The amount depends on the cat, but can be 50'ish points per hour, some more. Last night it looked like at least 100 points per hour. The way to reduce fast drops is to feed the curve to slow down those drops. More details here: Using Food to Manipulate the Curve Basically you have to figure out when they onset or other fast drops happen, and feed them food before hand to slow down those drops.

Here is some more information on pancreatitis. A Primer on Pancreatitis I hope that's not what Copernicus has. It is painful.

He is on a strict food schedule. He eats about a ping pong sized amount every 3 hours. This was the best way I found to keep his ketones down and to keep his weight up. And he had pancreatitis really bad at initial diagnosis. I'll take a look at the link...thank you

Hi Krista, I hope he comes down from the bounce gently.
It’s good you’ve figured out the best way to keep him stable with frequent snacks and get rid of the ketones.
I’m sure he feels better.
So glad he’s gained weight back. Good job with the feedings.

Ivy dropped to 50s on her Libre today and now bounced up to almost 400 on Libre. She’s still quite a bouncer when she goes lower.

Give Copernicus some chin scratches from me 😻🐈‍⬛💞
