Morning LL,

WCR Got the results back of her CBC +T4 and urine test. Everything was in normal range except:

Calcium 11.1 [8.2-10.8]
T4 4.7 [0.8-4.0]

Urinalysis [no bacteria anymore]
Blood 2+
RBC 11-20 [0-3]

She is treating her for hyper t. Put her on a low dose of Felimazole 2.5mg 1xday [Tapazole]

Any thoughts on this?
I know Sara is telling me that something is out of whack with her by this innappropriate urinating. She always has.

Also heard from DH and he will be back tuesday from Africa.

I have a funeral to go to today so I won't be around till later in the afternoon.

Have a good day everyone. Keep cool. It sure is HOT here.

Morning Jan & Sara....hope you can find a cool place to be today and that Sara does ok on the new meds.
I know nothing about them but I am sure some people will be around to talk to you about that. Glad the bacteria is gone...Sara is so smart, isn't she?? :YMHUG:

I don't think Calcium values are typically elevated with hyper-T. You might ask you vet to rule out hyperparathyroidism. This condition does elevate calcium levels.

I can just say that when Kasha was dx'd with hyperthyroidism 3 1/2 yrs ago, her T4 was around 19! It was crazy high... Hopefully you'll be able to correct that thyroid issue fairly quickly with the meds. We tried meds for a while and then as soon as we could, we opted for the I-131 radioactive iodine treatment. Given the cost of continuing meds and checkups/blood work a couple of times a year, the cost of the one-time treatment has worked out to be less than if we'd continued with the meds. Last checkup, I think her T4 was under 2.

Jan -

How about posting over on Health, as well. I think having some of the vet techs who are over there take a look and comment would be helpful. They are a wonderful resource. Alternatively, if you send a PM to Jess/Earl, she will stop by your LL condo, if asked.

I had a cat on Tapazole for 14 years....she did great on it and it kept her thyroid regulated.

Re: 7/7 Sara's blood work

Glad to see Sara's still doing well in the BG department, and that her urine is clean. I don't know anything about the test results, sorry I can't help with that.

Thanks for visiting my condo, today.
I'm glad you heard from your DH and he'll be home soon.
Nice +3 Sara.
Hope you get the answers you seek, Jan.

Even mild elevations in calcium can be significant. I assume you are going back in a week or two for a CBC and T4, I'd ask if they can re-do the chemistry to check the calcium. The best test for calcium levels is an ionized calcium test but this requires special handling and may be more expensive, so you might want to run a regular chemistry first. I'd discuss it with your vet.

Urinalysis [no bacteria anymore]

Was this taken by cystocentesis or free-catch? If the latter, she still may have an infection. You don't always see bacteria in a plain urinalysis and there shouldn't be blood in a free-catch sample. (Sometimes there is a slight amount of contaminating blood in urine taken by cysto.)
